"We can't just not accept muggle-born students! This is a school, a place for everyone to learn!" A man shouted at his long time friend. The man had golden hair and sparkling blue eyes, that normally shone with mischief but now showed anger. His name was Godric.

"It's not that it's-" His companion tried to explain. This man had dark hair that fell gracefully to his shoulders, his sea green eyes shone honestly. His name was Salazar.

"What? Are they not worthy of being taught with those who have pure blood running through their veins?"

"How dare you accuse me of such a thing! You know I don't think like that! My main concern is the muggle-born students are mistreated at home because of what they are! Every year two or three of our muggle-born students don't return! Why do you think that is, Godric?" Godric was silent for a moment.

"They still deserve to be taught," he said quietly.

::Flashback::

Ten year old Salazar was laying in the grass "reading," his Defense Against the Dark Arts book. Okay so maybe he wasn't really reading, but it wasn't his fault really! There was some blonde kid- probably eight or nine- climbing a tree and Salazar wanted to see how far he'd make it.

The kid climbed higher and higher, but then there was a sudden crack! The little blonde boy began to fall. The wind rushed through his hair and just as Salazar prepared himself to watch the boy hit the ground- he didn't. The blonde boy hovered above the ground for a moment before gently floating down.

Salazar's eyes widened as he slammed his book shut and sped over to the boy.

"Hey kid!" Salazar shouted to the boy. His eyes widened and he tried to scramble away.

"Don't tell anyone!" He exclaimed, "I'm not a witch! I'm not a witch I swear! I always go to church and I never do-"

"Of course you're not a witch!" Salazar interrupted the boy, "Only girls are witches, you are a wizard."

"A- a what?" The boy asked.

"A wizard. W-I-Z-A-R-D," Salazar spelled out, annoyed that the boy was being so… What's a good word, disbelieving?

"But that's not possible!" The boy exclaimed, "You're lying to me!"

Salazar sighed in exasperation, "Accio apple," he said as he drew his wand and pointed it to a ripe, red apple at the top of the tree. The apple flew towards Salazar's out stretched hand, he tossed the apple to the boy.

"Wow," The boy said in awe. "Can you turn people into toads? Make things disappear? Talk to animals? Burn things?"

"Slow down!" Salazar commanded, "What's your name?"

"Godric of the brave and bold Gryffindor family," the boy said proudly.

"Salazar Slytherin," Salazar replied, shaking the boy's hand.

"Well Sal, I think this is going to be a beautiful friendship," Godric said.

"Just as long as you don't call me Sal," Salazar replied.

"Whatever you say, Sal."

"Look," Salazar said, "I can't keep watching the muggle born students get hurt. Either we don't let them get hurt by not accepting them here, or I leave."

::Flashback::

"Let's make a school!" Helga exclaimed suddenly, as she, Salazar, Godric and Rowena walked by the Black Lake.

"A school?" Salazar asked incredulously, "What on Earth would we do in a school?"

"Teach children of course!" Helga exclaimed back.

"Teach children what?" Rowena asked.

"Magic," Godric said dreamily.

"Where would we teach these children? And how would we get these children? They just don't appear out of nowhere! We can't just pull children out of our a-" Salazar was interrupted by Helga.

"Salazar Slytherin! There are ladies present!"

"Well where would we teach them?" Salazar replied.

"Right here!" Helga exclaimed, stomping her foot on the ground. "We shall build our school here, and right where we're standing is where we will be dining in a year."

"We're going to build a school in a year?" Salazar asked.

"Yes," Helga replied.

"Where do we start?" Salazar asked and Helga grinned.

::End Flashback::

Salazar had only been seventeen at the time, the oldest of the four. They did build the castle in one year (thanks to magic) and they had been teaching for five years.

"You're leaving?" Godric asked softly.

"If I can't protect the muggle-born students, I can't stay here," Salazar replied.

"Leave then you dirty snake!" Godric bellowed, his cries echoing throughout the school.

Salazar looked into the eyes of his friend one last time before he turned and walked to the doors of the school. He looked back as he opened the door and slipped out into the thunderstorm that burdened the night.
