Hi guys! Nice to be back on FanFiction! I was on a very, VERY short hiatus, but I'm back now with a little one-shot for AdderClan! Now, dear readers, just sit back and enjoy!
"Mom! Mom!" A small, light brown she-kit complained. The nursery was dark and wet, cold and chilling the young kit to the bone. "Why zit zo colt?" the kit whimpered. A long furred gray and white she-cat licked her head soothingly. The light brown kit had only been born this morning, so she wasn't speaking properly.
"Hush, my dear Lightkit," she murmured. "I'm sure Sootflame will cover up the hole in the roof." Lightkit's whimpering died off and she snuggled in closer to her mother, but she didn't notice the worried glance her mother shared with the other queen.
"What will we tell her, Cranedance?" the other cat murmured. "We shouldn't lie to her, but it will be no good letting her know as well."
"Quiet, Quailfeather," Cranedance muttered softly. "I'll tell Lightkit when she's ready." Quailfeather muttered to herself, and Cranedance could only catch the words 'lonely' and 'half-Clan.' Cranedance sighed.
No. Lightkit will never know. She will only remember her Clanmates. Not me, not her father. Cranedance licked her tiny, fragile daughter lovingly. And Quailfeather can't stop me. The gray and white she-cat lifted her head and met Quailfeather's gaze, challenge sparking in her own eyes. She's my daughter, so now; I decide her future until she's a warrior.
The Next Morning…
"Mom!" Lightkit's squeal rang in the cool, crisp air. "Wake up! Wake up! Mom!" Cranedance groaned and rolled over, curling her fluffy tail around Lightkit.
"Lightkit," she murmured. "Go back to sleep…" Lightkit continued harassing her mother, so the gray and white queen woke up. "Oh, my special dove!" she cried. "You've opened your eyes!" Lightkit paused, and stared at her mother with wide, clear, shining blue-green orbs.
"Yeah…" she muttered, blinking. "Now that you're awake, let's go and play!" Lightkit whined. "Come on!" Cranedance purred and strode into the clearing. Lightkit followed, and her mouth formed a perfect o. "Woah…" she gasped, her eyes taking in the camp.
"What?" Cranedance purred, nuzzling the fuzzy she-kit.
"What's the white fluff all about?" Lightkit meowed, ducking down and chomping on some ice. She spat it out immediately. "What the heck is this?" Her mew was edged with disgust. Cranedance purred in amusement.
"It's ice," she meowed matter-of-factly. "It's frozen snow."
"What's snow?" Lightkit replied.
"It's the cold fluffy white stuff you see in camp," Cranedance explained, eyes glittering. "It comes in leaf-bare, when prey is hard to find and everything is cold and soaks you to the bone." Lightkit let out a squeal.
"Cool! I want to know how being cold to the bone feels like!" she squealed, jumping into a fluffy white pile. Laughing, she dove into another pile. "Catch me!" she chirped to Cranedance. Squealing and screeching in happiness, she skidded down the snowy slope and into Cranedance's soft, welcoming belly. She sighed in contentment.
Oh wow! I love snow! I wish leaf-bare or whatever it was called lasts forever! Little did Lightkit know, an endless snowstorm was coming soon.
Bad ending, I realize…I'm bad at oneshot cliffhangers… Well…review!
Yours,
~Wish (and Amberflower)
