Prompt(s): [Song Prompt] Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash
Year: Head
Lucius Malfoy was like a raging fire. He was bright and bold, cunning and quick.
She'd been naive to agree to marry him. She'd been ignorant to the prominent dangers he posed to her safety and her family name. She'd been so trusting, so naive - he'd captivated her, drawn her in, and now there was no way she could get out. The flames had barely seemed dangerous all those years ago, but there's no smoke without fire.
Narcissa had fallen for him like a child; she'd opened her heart to him, trusted him completely, and she'd barely questioned the many promises he'd made her. She'd let him slip a ring onto her finger, and she'd done so without a care in the world. Because at first their love was sweet, and kind, and pure. Just like a first glance at a flame it was deceptively beautiful. But then they were married, and the fire grew wild, creating a ring around her from which there was no escape.
As the years passed Lucius only grew more dangerous, and with that danger the fire grew higher and higher. Lucius acted more and more recklessly in the public eye, making enemies that would prove to be far more powerful than the Dark Lord he praised. They'd barely made it out unscathed last time he'd dragged her into the darkness. But this time she would not let his ring of fire demolish her and her family. Not with Draco's future on the line. Because, yes, she was a pureblood, and the wife of a known Death Eater, but she was a mother first. She was strong when it came to her son. She would go to great lengths just to protect him.
And she wouldn't let a little fire stop her from doing just that.
