Will Colson woke slowly from a deep fog. Exhaustion still flooded his body. His entire body felt extremely heavy, like he'd been run over by a train. The fog slowly cleared from his mind as Will began to remember what had happened. Will's right foot that had been in unbelievably agonizing pain hours ago was completely numb. Not only that, but he couldn't feel his entire right leg at all. Will opened his eyes a crack and tried to move. His body ached in protest, causing Will to close his eyes and moan drowsily.
"Will?" asked a soft voice.
Somewhere, Will knew the voice. For the past two weeks, he'd been dying to hear that voice again. He nearly did hours ago. His throat was dry, but Will managed to work past it. "Darcy?" He opened his eyes once more, wider this time.
Above him, he found his wife's beautiful face looking down at him. "Hey baby. How're you feeling?"
"Tired." Will said drowsily. He blinked once, taking a quick look nearby him. The room was empty save for himself and his wife. "Where's Cody?"
"In the cafeteria. My sister took him down a few minutes ago." Darcy explained. She moved closer to the bedside.
"How'd the surgery go?" Will asked.
Darcy smiled. "It went good. The doctors repaired the damage and set your foot."
Will sighed, nodding. "Great." He let his head roll to the left, facing Darcy.
Darcy reached her right hand up and gently laid it on the bed. Her fingertips lightly stroked Will's forehead, relaxing him. She looked beautiful hovering above him. Her blond hair was draped over her left shoulder. Will thought back to when Darcy had done the same thing on late nights when she thought he was asleep, before he'd screwed everything up.
"I'm sorry Darcy." Will mumbled.
Darcy frowned. "For what babe?"
"For not believing you. I should've…I should've just let it go and trusted you." Will said.
Darcy smiled shaking her head. "No. No Will. I should've told you the truth."
"I'm still sorry." Will said.
"Me too." Darcy leaned forward and kissed his forehead. "Get some sleep babe."
Darcy's fingertips continued to stroke his forehead. Suddenly Will felt the side effects of his medications kicking in. His eyelids felt heavy, he found it harder to stay awake. The sounds of the medical equipment became muffled and disoriented. Will fought against the medication for a little longer.
"Promise…promise me…something, babe." Will mumbled.
"Anything Will."
"You'll…you'll be here…when I wake up."
Darcy smiled. "I promise."
Will smiled back and took a deep breath. He closed his eyes, leaning closer into Darcy's touch. Her fingertips acted as a comforting lullaby for him. Will felt himself easily succumbing to sleep under her touch. He felt his sense of conscious slipping further from his grasp. Just before Will was completely lost to sleep, he heard Darcy's voice one last time.
"I love you Will."
