The End
Birds flew high up in the air returning from the disturbance. They had been frightened away from the heat of the battle, but were too stubborn to abandon their nests entirely.
Tall trees were a common sight around the small clearing though some of the rich green trees were engulfed in uncontrolled fiery flames. The dark brown bark was embedded with multiple arrows, darts, and stilettos. There were deep marks made by swords and a stray piece of cotton material was held by a small dagger left forgotten never to be reclaimed by its owner.
Azula's golden eyes opened slowly and landed immediately on the figure clad in pink a short distance away. She spent the last of strength she had to painfully drag her body with her recently broken legs over to the acrobat. Ty Lee's eyes were closed and her chest still, her breathing had ceased mere moments ago.
The princess' face crumbled when she understood the girl wouldn't get up from her position on the ground. A sad realisation was unveiled to her when she realised Ty Lee's neck was bent at an unnatural angle.
"Ty Lee?" She whispered sadly.
She turned her head away from the devastating sight and she searched for the other familiar form she knew would be close by. A small amount of unrecognisable short charred bodies littered the ground and she scanned over the carnage again in a second attempt to locate the other girl in her group.
Azula looked to the ground suddenly, tears threatening to leak from her eyes. She again looked over to Mai slumped against a small tree stump, two arrows sticking out from her chest and a slash made by a sword had torn into her abdomen ripping her clothes that were now covered in the dark crimson of her blood.
"Mai!" She screamed, somehow hoping her voice alone would stir the other girl alive.
She attempted to feebly crawl over to Ty Lee who was closest, but the pain in her legs prevented her moving from the spot.
Azula managed to roll over on to her back and cried out when one of her legs hit the earth hard. She lowered the back of her head to the ground and stared up into the beautiful blue sky dotted with white puffy clouds.
"This is how it ends?" She asked the heavens incredulously. "Ridiculous!"
"Longshot!" A loud boyish voice came out of nowhere and Azula closed her eyes feigning death. "Smellerbee? Where are you?"
A teenage boy walked into the clearing as Azula tried to still her breathing. She could hear him checking over the dead before he walked over to her and placed a hand on her chest.
"The dead don't cry." He spoke seeing through her ruse. "Fire Nation filth." The boy removed his hand with disgust, contempt in his voice.
"Go ahead." Azula taunted him. "Do it!"
"Thanks for the permission." He scoffed, the piece of straw never leaving his mouth.
She shut her eyes in preparation for the end. There was no one to save her with Ty Lee and Mai gone and with the state of her legs she couldn't even save herself to take them back home for a proper burial.
Azula couldn't hold back a piercing scream when the pain in her legs became bearable unmatched by the indescribable pain and tearing in her chest. The boy had delivered a weapon of his choice into her and she was dimly aware it was two separate hook swords.
She didn't open her eyes and the birdsong she had heard faded away into nothing with one last breath her heartbeat slowed and then stopped. The fire nation princess and her two friends were no more.
