Note: Hi everyone. Being a Minecraft addict, I figured I had to try my hand at writing a Minecraft fanfiction. So here it is. Sorry it is so confusing. There is only this chapter though.

Please review. If the genre is wrong, sorry. I'm really bad at classifiying.

Oh, and, just so you know, the sound of your heart beat is "lub-dub". I was taught that is natural science.

In the Dark

The soft thud of footsteps came through the night, penetrating the light, turning his blood to ice. It was outside. It was waiting. He thought of his brother, who hadn't even lasted a day on this Earth before it had caught him. He huddled in his shelter.

His sword was held loosely in his hand. He had never put it down during night, not once. The walls seemed too thin, flimsy and weak compared to its might. He knew if he even leaned against them, they would shatter. He wasn't imagining that. He knew from bitter experience.

His brother had thought he was also safe in his own home. The day after that first night, he had never come for breakfast. When the remaining brother had investigated, he had found the northern wall of the shelter in pieces and his brother's possessions scattered inside it.

He had known what had happened. With the huge crater, it wasn't an impossible deduction. He shivered. Now it had come for him. His eyes blurred. A smudge of green swam into view and he leapt up with a cry. He slashed with his sword, expecting the world to disappear beneath his feet at any moment.

As his eyes focused on the smudge, he let his sword hang down again. His lime bed covers lay torn at his feet. He needed to calm down. He could feel his heart beating. Lub, dub, lub ,dub. He sat down and grabbed some jerky. As he tore at it, he listened to the sound of it outside.

He imagined its frowning face staring at him. He swallowed the last of his food. With a small jerk, he stood back up and peered through the window. The world was slowly lighting up, bringing with it a spark of defiance. He would not wait for his death like a coward. He was not a coward.

He would meet it, in the way his brother had never had the chance to. Raising his sword again, he walked to the door. Lub-dub-lub-dub. This was it. He was going to go out with a bang. With a sad smile he thought of the pun. Steeling his body, he grabbed the door handle. He flung the door open and dashed out. With a skid, he stopped and turned to face his doom.

It stared at him with mild surprise. He blinked. "Moo?"
