Star-crossed
--
Severus stumbled over his feet as dozens of joyful children rushed passed him to met up with their parents. Parents…what a foreign word—well, okay, not a foreign word, but a foreign meaning—to Severus. The only thing his mother and father done to consist as parents was to give birth to him. Nothing more.
Severus's dark eyes watched the muggle children through a dirty curtain of black hair with contempt. He absolutely detested these people, their way of life, and how pathetically weak and naïve they were. This world is undesirable. The world that is desirable is the world his mother spoke so fondly of, and on contrast was the world in which his father feared and hated: the Wizarding World. It is hidden, and only those privileged, those that are worthy of such a world may enter and thrive with the unimaginable knowledge and powers the world has to offer. Unfortunately, Severus is stuck residing in the muggle world as of now.
He thought the very word, muggle, to be disgusting and when he speaks it out loud it brings a nasty aftertaste in his mouth.
A flicker of red strands danced in front of Severus, his ears catching the softest of giggles, and then something magical happened, driving the young boy to forget his previous contempt.
The young girl that rushed past him held a small amount of water in her palms, but instead of sitting calmly as it normally should have, it was instead dancing. Droplets of water shined around the redhead, and a string of water twirled around her hands and up her arm reminiscing a glove.
'She's a witch,' thought Severus, his eyes wide at seeing someone else like him. His heart leapt in his chest as he heard her giggle again, her smile as radiant as the water dancing upon her palms and upper body.
Severus heard a shriek at his right—"Lily!"—and the magic sadly ended as the water fell back into limbo, drenching Lily. Severus frowned as he watched Lily's arm be yanked on by the blonde that nearly made him deaf. How dare that muggle girl ruin such great magic!
Severus decided to follow the girls out of the school. It wasn't as if his parents would notice that he came home late, if they even care for that matter. He just had to follow Lily! She's just like him...and with the way she manipulated the water with such ease shows that she is very gifted; that she is very special. She is some one to be treasured.
His heart thumped harder in his chest, his mouth became dry, and his hands sweaty, but his gaze stayed permanently glued to Lily's red hair, determined to keep up with her without her—or that damn muggle girl—noticing that he is trailing them.
Severus imagined becoming friends with Lily, but a sudden knot appeared in his stomach proved that he couldn't approach her. What would he do if she denied him? Just like everyone else: his parents, those damn muggles that he attempted to befriend who only laughed at his mismatched clothes and dirty hair…God, if Lily were to laugh at him, Severus thinks he would crawl somewhere dark and just die.
Severus became obsessed with thoughts of Lily, of how to approach her and different scenarios in which she either denied him or accepted him. Everyday, for months, Severus would follow Lily home and watch her play until sunset, until he finally got the courage to approach her one afternoon. It didn't go so well, and though he became best friends with Lily, it was a rocky friendship until Lily severed ties with him completely. That horrible day remains Severus worst memory.
Poor Severus. He loved Lily till the day he died, staring into the replica of her eyes—the eyes of her son—and he never realized that the love he had for her was simply infatuation.
