Outside the Garage

Author's Notes: I have to admit that there's really no point to this ficlet. I really wanted to see this scene at the end of "A Land Without Magic," and was disappointed that it didn't happen, so I thought I'd just write it (though I realize that August might still be wood come season 2 and this scene could still happen in the future, but here it is anyway). I skimmed through the summaries and didn't see anything like this. I'm sorry if anyone has actually beaten me to this and I didn't notice.

August rushed to his father's garage. It was empty. He ran to the door and found it unlocked. Without hesitation, he entered the house.

"Hello?" August called. "Are you here?" He wasn't sure if he should call out for his father yet. "Hello?"

He searched every room and found no one. August finally walked out the front door, wondering where his father could be. He then turned around and saw the man looking at him.

August and Geppetto advanced eagerly until they were close enough for Geppetto to take a close look at Augusts' face. The examination felt very long to August. Geppetto finally put his right hand on August's left cheek.

August leaned his head into his father's hand as he closed his eyes. He exhaled.

"Pinocchio?" Geppetto said hesitantly.

August opened his eyes, tears evident in them.

"You've grown up," Geppetto added, smiling.

"I'm still your boy," August finally said.

Geppetto smiled.

"I don't know what I've done to deserve this mercy," August remarked.

"Then you will work to earn it, hmm?"

August leaned in and hugged his father, who returned it. Tears started rolling down August's cheeks.

"I've missed you so much, father."

Thank you for reading. I hope it wasn't too bad.
