Pinkcott123: My second pokemon story! After doing some more researching I say that Byakko is of the wind element and Seiryuu is the earth element. I know that in truth Byakko is the metal element and Seiryuu's wood, but I wanted 1 simple element for each so I'm sticking to it and that's that.
May: *trying not to sound fake* What does it have to do with this story?
Pinkcott123: I'm glad you ask May and it has everything to do with this story. I also tweaked some elements of the other animals for air, water, fire, and earth.
Dawn: Wow that sounds really cool! *shaking head furiously as camera*
Misty: Okay okay you can stop reading those notecards. I think they get the message.
May: *throw notecards across the room*Thank goodness! *clear throat* Pinkcott23 d-
Leaf: does not own pokemon! *running from May*
Pinkcott123: On with the show! *backing away from May* Seriously now!
May's POV
This really is a cliche beginning and I'm the one starting it.
In the middle of autumn, one of the best seasons to take a simple stroll, I was being tortured to the fullest. My bag felt heavy, my head was overflowing with sweat, and my legs were on the edge of becoming jelly. The shadows of 3 girls could be seen in the distance waiting for the one girl who was way behind on her trip to school. That's me by the way if you didn't already know that. I stopped my trek to catch my breath in the middle of the road.
"May hurry up, or else we're leaving you behind!" Misty screamed to me. Yep that's definitely me, May Maple, a girl in her second year of high school just trying to get to school with my best friends Leaf, Dawn, and Misty.
I took a deep breath in and moved strands of my brown hair out of my face.
"Who was the one who suggested that we should take the long way to school?!" I yelled trying to get a gulp of air.
"Didn't you say you wanted a challenge?"
"NOT LIKE THIS!" I complained. Everyone looked at each other and shrugged. After noticing I wasn't going to move anytime soon they just continued walking actually leaving me behind. Something just went off within me.
"Fine! Be like that! If it's like this then-!" I sprinted towards the figures as I felt 2 small, brown wings burst out of my back. I jumped into the air, giving me a boost in the air, and I flew right though the crowd. I easily caught up with the girls. No scratch that, I raced past the girls and towards the school.
"No one is going to call me a sloth!" I laughed flying toward the school with one arm in front of me; superman styled.
"Cheater!" Dawn yelled.
"How am I the cheater?" I said slowing down midflight.
"You can fly! I can't!"
"It's not my fault I'm a sparrow!" I said crossing my arms.
You hear right; I'm a sparrow. Misty's a turtle, Dawn's a cat, and Leaf's a lizard.
Everyone have an animal in them that's a part of who they are. The animal can range from a mouse to a gigantic whale. They represent who we are and give us the powers to be like them. People who are cats like Dawn have great balance and agility, people with aquatic animals like Misty can swim well, and people who are birds like myself can fly. Need I say more?
"Well two can play it that game!" Dawn said sprouting blue cat ears and a tail. She started to climb the side of the building on to the roof and balanced on the very tip of it with 4 legs.
"Nyaaaaa!" Dawn laughed running on top of the buildings, "Last one to school is a rotten egg!" She screamed knowing full well that my competitive side would immediately take over. My grin couldn't help but widen.
"You're on! Loser pays for lunch!" I added and flapped my wings faster than ever. Dawn continued jumping from roof to roof as we race towards school.
"Gosh they do it every day." Leaf said and Misty sighed along. They both just walked with their own slow pace. I will always wonder how they make it to school on time with the speed they go at.
~At school~
"I made it over the line first!" I declared.
"No I did! You can clearly see I won by a tail." Dawn argued as her tail swished and disappeared.
"The tail doesn't count! And I still won by a nose!"' I retorted.
"I won!" Dawn stated. We kept on glaring at each other until we heard 2 pairs of very slow footsteps.
"WHO WON?!" Dawn and I asked looking at Leaf and Misty.
"I wasn't watching." Leaf said looking up from a book.
"Um…you both won?" Misty said adverting her eyes away from our stares. She smiled nervously as we both looked at each other.
"We'll declare it as a tie." I lend a hand out for Dawn to shake.
"Agreed." Dawn nodded and shook my hand. We continued our staredown. Usually a chuckle and a tease happen after, but we were soon distracted by an outsider. An annoying one.
"You're in my way." A girl with pink hair tied to 2 curled pigtails cut in between our view of each other. Dawn silently groaned with a look that said "Why did she had to appear now. Let just get this over with". Dawn looked up at the girl before rolling her eyes. It was Ursula, one of Dawn's well known bullies in the school. It seems like today was no better than the days before between these two.
"If there a rock in your way why don't you just walk around it? Why talk to it and wait for it to move? Why are you even standing here right now?" Dawn questioned in a Socrates' like manner. "If you want to go to wherever you're going then just move a step to the right and we'll go on our merrily way." Ursula grew red with anger and growled threateningly at Dawn.
"A bronze dare to talk back to me?!" She shouted dramatically even though this type of meeting always happens once a week.
"Whatever Ursula." Dawn said walking past her. Some of the Bronze students coming into the building began to run from Ursula as she grabbed Dawn's shoulder.
Before I forget I need to mention that in this school we have ranks – Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze in their respective order from best to worse. The bronze are supposed to have the weakest animals that are on the bottom of the food chain like cats, mosquitoes, and fishes. Silver students are students with strong animals or at least stronger animals than the bronze. These include lions, sharks, and hawks. Gold students are in a different class. Their animals are ones within the Chinese zodiacs which mean rabbit, boar, dog, rat, ox, horse, sheep, tiger, snake, rooster, monkey, and dragon. The Platinum students are the most special. The 4 members in their class are said to have the 4 legendary beasts; Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise, and the White Tiger.
I think you can clearly see we're in the Bronze level.
It can be shown in the school uniform. All boys wear a white shirt, a blazer and plaid pants while the girls wear a white blouse, a blazer and a plaid skirt. The color differ for the blazers and skirt/pants; dirty brown for Bronze, light gray for Silver, and golden yellow for Gold students. The color for Platinums differs per person depending on the element of their animal(not color for some apparent reason).
The school is built around these ranks from the food, the classrooms, the lessons, the privileges, and much more. Lowest priority always goes to the Bronze class and that sucks. I don't why we even have ranks in the first place. Everyone is strong in their own way. I want to complain to the principal, but that's the way things are in this school.
Thankfully the disciplinary system is about the same for each rank or else she would have been dead already. Dawn knocked the hand away from her shoulder and started walking towards her class. Everyone else followed suit then stopped as a sharp gust of air flew past me and towards Dawn. She dodged the wind, so thankfully only a small cut appeared on her face. It was made by Ursula(and her arrogant smile) with her animal, the tiger, as a warning, but it was useless. Dawn just stared at the blood leaking into her face, wiped it, and just continued walking. Ursula looked more agitated than ever as a mini tornado appeared in her hand and we silently stared at her attack.
"Ursula!" A girl with short red hair ran up to said girl. The tornado disappeared and Ursula turned to face her friend.
"Did you see any of the Jewels today?" Brianna asked excitedly. The Jewels are nicknames the students gave to the Platinums since no one knows what their real names are. Everything about the Platinums are a secret except for their animals and that they are all females. Each Platinum have a name of a jewel(that's why they are even called Jewels) to represent their own animal. Diamond for the White Tiger, Emerald for the Azure Dragon, Ruby for the Vermillion Bird, and Sapphire for the Black Tortoise.
"No I didn't! Just when I saw one she disappeared!" Ursula wailed and Dawn's hair stuck out on ends like a cat just shocked by something.
"Mostly because you were following them. They must have notice you. " Brianna said and Ursula sighed.
"Hey have you seen any of the Gems today?" Ursula asked and Brianna smiled as she nodded furiously. The Gems are the 4 most popular Golds in the schools. People said they are bless with 'good looks', "high intelligence", and 'great athletic abilities', but most importantly, best control over their animals. The only reason I'm not putting quotation marks on the last part is because it's true. I'll admit to that, but the rest are all lies and exaggerations.
"Yeah I did! is so dreamy!" Brianna said with hearts in her eyes. I pretended to gag and the girls giggled. Brianna and Ursula noticed us laughing and frowned.
"The bronze group is here again?" Brianna said like we were some sort of vermin. Our laughter turned to scowls and we just left them in their fangirl mode. We stopped when we heard a thud followed by a fallen Misty on the ground.
"Sorry!" A raven-haired boy apologized at Misty who was sitting on the ground. In the corner of my eye I could see the girls' jaw dropping. It's no wonder, that boy with the messy, black hair is Ash Ketchum, one of the 'Gems' of the school. 3 other boys walked up behind him and of course they were the rest of the Gems meaning Drew Hayden, Gary Oak, and Paul Shinji.
"Are you okay?" Ash asked with his hand out and Misty turned pink. She lowered her head while many other(specifially females) started asking why a Gold was helping a Bronze. Misty hid her face with her bangs and turned down Ash's offer.
"I can get up myself." She said and got back up without grabbing the hand.
"Oh ok." Ash said with hint of sadness.
"Get out of the way Bronze!" Brianna said pushing us down. Many other female students followed, surrounding and staring at the Gems like they were some princes who just returned to their home land and I couldn't help but gag again. I have to get away from these crazy fangirls. Motioning the others to follow her Leaf began to walk in the opposite direction and we followed, except for 1 girl – Misty.
"I'm sorry and thank you." She said graciously at Ash," for trying to help me aside from the social discrimination. But you shouldn't be seen helping a Bronze like me. It's bothersome." We looked at the two weirdly from the sidelines.
"Something happened to Misty." Dawn said and we nodded. We continued staring at Misty and Ash.
"Uhhhh I really don't care about that. I can't not help a fallen girl. Oh yeah I'm Ash!" He announced proudly.
"I'm Misty." Misty said shyly. Let me make it clear. She said it shyly. We all know Misty lived with 3 sisters so there was never a male in her household BUT the Misty Waterflower was shy. Our jaws dropped to the floor and an alarm bell ran in our heads. SOS SOS MISTY GOT SHY! THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!
"On yeah Misty, please get your brain checked." Ash said innocently as he scratched the back of his head. Misty lost her shyness in an instant. With an angry tick mark on her forehead, took out her famous wooden mallet and began pounding Ash.
"Who are you calling dumb?!" She shouted. We jumped at her voice. Alarms ceased and everyone laughed.
"Ah there's the Misty we all know and are afraid of." Dawn said smiling nervously and we chuckled quietly. The boys noticed Misty almost killing Ash with her mallet even though they were surrounded by girls. Their attention held on when we joined Misty's conversation and that started a whole line of trouble Gary coughed loudly and the girls stepped back. All eyes were focused on him now.
"I'm sorry. We were in the middle of something and it's rude to interrupt a fine lady." Gary said walking out of the crowd of girls.
"Mind if we have some privacy?"
"No we don't mind at all!" The girls cooed and the hallway emptied itself out. We were beginning to leave too and dragged Misty away from her pounding, but the Gems were following Gary...
…right to us.
Clearly the boys don't know about our ranks or they just didn't care that we really don't want to be in the burning spotlight. Gold students should not be walking up to Bronze students so casually in the middle of school.
"I'm Gary Oak." Gary said taking a bow and caressed Leaf's hand, "I never knew there was such a cute bronze in the school." He smiled slyly causing Leaf to looked at him in disgust. Nonetheless she flashed a false smile and bowed "Well thank you." Gary took out his cellphone and pressed some buttons.
"Okay gorgeous when will I pick you up?" Gary asked and Leaf's fake smile will never appear again when he's around.
"When I die and my name is Leaf." She emphasized her name towards Gary.
"So how about your phone number Leafy?" Gary asked like he didn't hear what Leaf just said. Leaf clenched her shaking fist and the side of her lip twitched.
"Killing is a crime. You get sent to jail for it. You don't really want to go to jail Leaf. They are worse people in jail than him. He's not worth it at all. So no killing. No killing whatsoever." She quietly chanted to herself. Dawn smiled worriedly.
"Leaf don't let him get to you." Dawn said and began her little act with Gary.
"I'm Dawn and this is May." She smiled.
"Hello." I said politely, but this was getting really uncomfortable.
"We already know you're the Drew Hayden and Paul Shinji so you don't have to introduce yourselves." Dawn said saving us from a whole lot of earache.
"Thank gods too." I muttered. I was hoping it was low enough so only Dawn can hear it, but unfortunately Drew heard it as well.
"Did you say something June?" He asked smugly. Irked, I marched straight up to Drew.
"MY NAME IS NOT JUNE GRASSHEAD!" I screeched. He looked as cool (I mean calm! Not like the likeable cool!) as ever as he looked at me with a grin that just irritated me more.
"Really April?" Drew said flipping his hair. Please let me cut his bangs off! The world will be better that way! I mean who the hell would dye their hair green anyway?!
"Why you-!" I grabbed my lithium bracelet threatening to pull it off. I was very close to doing so until Dawn stopped me...by pouncing at me.
"You can't do that here!" She screamed, stopping me from taking off my bracelet, knocking me off balance, and causing both of us to fall over on the floor with a loud thump. She held on me tight as I struggled to break free from her grasp.
"Dawn let me at him!"
"Calm down May!" Dawn shouted tightening her grip around my stomach. Really I won't kill him! Maybe main him, but not kill this Grasshead!
"Are girls always this troublesome?" Paul sighed out loud. Like a trigger Dawn forgot about me and loosened her grip around me. I fell flat on my face from the sudden lack of resistance.
"What did you say?' Dawn asked forgetting all about the girl she's supposed to control. My head was still stinging, but it was getting interesting for me so just this once, I let go of my desire to kill a grasshead and stared at the confrontation between Dawn and Mr. Stoic.
"Troublesome." Paul answered blankly and Dawn turned red with anger.
"MY NAME IS NOT TROUBLESOME!" Dawn shrieked holding herself back from grabbing Paul's blazer.
"But it's true." Paul replied in a monotone voice. Dawn grabbed her own bracelet and now it was my turn to pounce.
"LET ME KNOCK SOME FREAKING SENSE INTO THAT BRAIN OF YOUR-"
"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Everyone stopped everything and turned toward the sound of Leaf's voice. Leaf, with her hands covering her butt, quivered as she glared at Gary.
"YOU DID NOT JUST TOUCH ME!" She cried.
"What I thought you liked it!" Gary said smirking at Leaf's red face.
"Y-You pervert!" Leaf screamed, "You're going to pay!"
CRACK!
Leaf's wooden bracelet became splinters in a matter of seconds. Now this was a true SOS.
"LEAF Calm down for a second!" Dawn cried out, "you don't want to do this!" The boys showed confusion when they could feel the obvious rumbling beneath their feet. It was getting stronger as the seconds tick by.
With urgency, I ran up and down the hallway screaming, "CODE RED CODE RED CODE LEAF CODE GREEN CODE RED GREEN CODE CHRISTMA-"
SMACK SMACK SMACK!
We toppled to the floor with Misty behind them with her mallet resting on her shoulder. With a huff she ran towards a window and plucked a poor sap's branch off with a snap. Grabbing Leaf's wrist Misty seemed to death glared the stick into submission and easily flexed it around Leaf's wrist
"Now breath Leaf." Misty order and Leaf did as she was told. Somehow the branch "magically" connected with itself and the rumble in the school slowed to a stop. Misty could only give us blank looks.
"You guys can breath too you know." She said sweeping the remains of the old bracelet to the side, "The 'crisis' is averted."
"What's the problem?" Gary wondered, "A couple of Bronze getting angry at the best in the school?" Dawn looked at Gary with fury in her eyes.
"You should be lucky that's the only thing that happened!" She said.
"Plus the Jewels can easily kick your ass." I added as she crossed her arms.
"They are too scared to take us on." Paul said with a stoic face.
"What did you say?!" The girls screamed and the boys looked surprised from our counter.
"We should leave now before something else breaks." Misty said looking at the lithium around my wrist. When Leaf and Dawn saw what Misty saw they nodded.
"Excuse us." We walked past the boys in a hurry eyeing on only the remains of Leaf's bracelet (and somehow oblivious to the rest of the crowd that parted themselves like the Red Sea). However, someone grabbed May's arm forcefully, stopping May in her tracks.
"What do you think you're doing?" I growled thinking it was Grasshead again. I turned around only to see Brianna and this face was new. For once, she was livid.
"Meet me behind the school after school." She ordered.
~After classes behind the school~
Yeah, I actually came. After 8 hours of thinking of ways to kill a certain guy, a girl out to kill me was a nice change of pace. It was a silent stare down between us two, but honestly I just didn't have anything to say. 10 minutes passed and Brianna finally ended the silence.
"Stay away from Mr. Drew!" Brianna commanded. I was dumbfounded.
"Okay?" I said massaging my brain. Her voice was starting to give me a headache. Brianna scoffed in her own snotty way.
"Ha! I really don't see why he's so interested in you anyway. Who would want to be with a Bronze?" She arrogantly huffed as she twirled her hair.
" Right you're just a Bronze! A being who can't even be compared to a person such as myself!"
"Yeah you're right! "I agreed. Finally, someone who know actually acknowledged the ranks! Look at the normalcy! This bullshit is the expected response in this school! Ah I'm getting pissed off again. I turned around and started walking away from Brianna who really just had to kick her annoyance up a notch.
"Where do you think you're going?!" She asked.
"I don't have the patience to listen anymore," I answered giving Brianna a back wave, "See ya-" I dodged a knife aimed straight for my heart. It tore a hole at the side of my uniform and I stared at Brianna.
"What do you think you're doing? You could have hurt someone." She smirked.
"Who do you think I'm targeting?"
"Look, " I growled my hand loosely touching the bracelet around my wrist, "I'm getting tired of this shit."
"What are you going to to do?" She screamed throwing another dagger straight towards the face.
"You're right. Maybe I should give you a glimpse of my powers." I said loosely unclasping my bracelet. I stretched out my hand in from of my face and caught the blade as it pierce my hand. My hair grew lighter while the tips of it fade into a powerful red color. The aura around me grew until it took the form of a phoenix and it screeched a menacing cry. Brianna was taken aback.
"What?! Who are you?!" She stuttered backing away until her back was met with a wall.
"No one~" I pulled the knife out of my hand, "Just someone who is in a really bad mood today." I walked up towards the girl.
"Please forgive me!" Brianna whimpered. Her hands covered her own face as she quivered on the ground.
"Oh now you beg for mercy. Well, tough luck Brianna you reap what you sow." I sighed. The girl looked up at me still cowering from my form. I raised her dagger and pointed it under her chin.
"Die."
With that word Brianna fainted.
I retracted the blade and it slowly melted away in my hand. I rubbed my irritated head in anger and it took some willpower just not to scream. The gold students are getting more and more conceited with their rank when they don't even have the courage or skill to back them up. I leaned forward and I touched Brianna's forehead. I muttered a small chant and the event that happened just now will just be a dream. I put my bandanna and clasp my bracelet back on and looked at them with a frown. They looked at me normally, but they get the feeling I felt. Dawn gave me a soft pat on the back.
"Thanks, I needed that." I sadly smiled.
"You're late for class. The teacher is waiting for you." Misty reached a hand out to me. I rolled my eyes.
"It's not like they care about lateness anyway." I said grabbing her hand.
~After school~
"There's…there's …there's a hole in your short!" Dawn wailed staring at the tear on my shirt as we walked back home.
"You care more about my uniform than me?' I asked flabbergasted.
"You'll just regenerate anyway." Dawn said.
"Yeah but it's not like I'm immortal!"
"Isn't a phoenix able to be reborn from the ashes when they die?" Leaf asked.
"Sure that is my animal, but I'm definitely not a phoenix." I said.
I think you guys could already tell that we are the Jewels. I am actually Ruby and I have the Vermilion Bird. Leaf is Emerald with the Azure Dragon, Misty is Sapphire who have the Black Tortoise, and Dawn is Diamond with the White Tiger.
Pretty cliche isn't it?
So why are we in the Bronze class then? Well for me, I just tired. I was tired of those fakers who believed in our ranking system a bit too much. They are mean to the Bronze and nice to the Platinums just from the differences in the beings that we possess. We are just regular humans with titles thrusted upon just because of our animal. Not from our skill. Heck we even have to depend on simple rocks to control them! It's so mortifying. Beside, I liked it better being bullied than being the center of attention. At least you see everyone's true selves. There's also something about keeping it a secret to hide from people trying to take advantage of us, but I didn't listen. Of course I knew they exist all over the place. Those people are the kinds I hate the most. Can you imagine Brianna sucking up to Ruby to get on her good side? Ugh I'm starting to get nightmares.
Anyway to hide out true powers we have these limiters on our wrists to seal and control our powers, but sometimes our power is too great and the beads on our bracelet break, unsealing out powers. Living proof: Leaf.
"Aside from that why didn't you give her a good punch in the face? She at least deserve that." Leaf said. I sighed at my friend's somewhat violent thoughts.
"Sure she wanted to hurt me, but she was just jealous of me being near Grasshead. Violence doesn't solve anything. It just creates more pain. So, I decided to stop myself from actually hurting someone. Besides you can sew it back up easily Dawn." I said. Everyone looked at me like I've grown another head.
"May, I believed you got a bit wiser." Misty said. When she finished her sentence my stomach growled.
"Ahhh I'm hungry…I want to eat something right now!" I whined holding my stomach.
"Nevermind." Misty mumbled. Once I got a clear sight of my house I instantly bolted.
"Dinner is calling for me~!" I sang grabbing the door handle and jamming the key into the hole. With a click, I opened the door and stared into the room.
"WHAT THE HELL!"
