The Lonely Union

~Opening Chapter, Kyo's Side~

Crimson and amber leaves fell outside as Kyo watched them with blank eyes. His doll-like features seemed even more so as he hadn't moved for some time. Gilbert had gone off to war long ago, but Kyo still waited up, and when he had extra time, he would continue to wait. He waited even though he didn't know how his partner was doing, despite the letters that they sent back and forth. He heard the tatami screen open and nearly jumped at the sound as he smiled widely, only to turn and face a messenger. His smile died instantly as he saw that this wasn't Gilbert returning. A slight panic filled his heart as he waited for the messenger to speak, which took an agonizingly long time. "I'm sorry to inform you sir…" he began, and Kyo's heart began breaking, this was how they began the speech about a death. He covered his mouth to stifle any sound that might betray his emotion. "…but your….companion has gone missing. We can presume that he is dead. My condolences." the messenger finished, bowing quickly before leaving. Once Kyo was sure the messenger had left, he felt his knees give out as he fell. It took a moment as he had to process this, to confirm what he'd just heard. The tears came after a time and so did the sobs. "It can't be true….it just can't be…" he cried as his heart ached, he couldn't lose the person he deemed precious to him. After a time, he ran out of tears and only sat there whimpering. Eventually, he had calmed enough to move, but he only got up to go to his bed and lay down. He just laid there silently, no more crying, and no more sounds. He'd locked himself away for a few days, not responding to anything, or anyone.
