This is a fairy tale short story of Lucy and Natsu expressing their feelings. I wanted to take a stab at this to help with all the writers block I've been experiencing. I hope you guys enjoy :)
She felt as if she was as light as a feather, floating. She opened her eyes to her surroundings of a starry night, floating on a cloud. It was as beautiful as a view could be.
What was the purpose of this?
"Lucy!"
A warm feeling shot through her body like a chill, except it was a warm sensation paralyzing her in place. His voice sounded so familiar calling her name.
Natsu.
There was so much she could just say, but she couldn't find the words. In the beginning when she had first met Natsu and Happy, she never dreamed she would have developing the strong strange feelings that she was feeling for him now. The feelings were so strong that it hurt, but a good hurt. He was her best friend. Her family. Her everything.
She started to reminisce back to all their missions, battles, sacrifices, victories, and happiness. He was always the one who stood there by her side. The one who was always went out of his way for her. The one who desperately tried to protect her from all the evil that the world throws at them. The one who is always pouting when she is sick or sad because he feels the same pain as she does.
She looked down. He always protected her. She used to be so weak but now she is stronger, but he still always longs to protect her.
She smiled.
They both had lost their family but now they have each other and she was okay with him wanting to always be there. Back when the Eclispe project was in play, her future self some how managed to go back to the present time. Her future self-stepped in the way of the attack that future Rouge had fired to kill present Lucy, and at that moment when she saw the twisted look on Natsu's face; twisted pain and tears streamed down his face as he bared his teeth with a growl. She had never seen Natsu react like that.
She shook her head. She needed to not think about that kind of sadness. Instead her thoughts drifted to the time they were on the dragon cry mission and Sonya had stated that she wish she had the love they shared. That's when Natsu grabbed her and Happy tightly with a huge grin and said that that was because they're family. But neither of them could confess how they truly feel towards each other. That was also one of the scariest days of her life. Watching Natsu so helpless as he was plunged onto the dragon's horn. She thought she was going to lose him forever.
But she didn't.
She turned around surveying where she was. She still couldn't quite understand what was going on. Was she in a dream? Another dimension? Planet?
What she couldn't deny was that she was truly in love with Natsu Dragoneel and it only grew more and more each day.
She knew his weakness. Strengths. Happiness.
He knew all hers.
Who knew that their little encounter she had back with him in Hargeon Port town would lead them to where they are now. She was searching for celestial keys when word got out about the wizard called Salamander from the Fairy Tale guild was in the area. She was under a trance until Natsu broke her free of it. Learning that the Salamander going around the town was a fluke. Then she later learned that Natsu was the true Salamander from Fairy Tale and then he grabbed her hand and took her to join.
And then their adventures started on.
Her face was suddenly wet as she touched her face. She was crying. Why was she crying these tears? The emotions were running through mind, no not running but racing and she couldn't quite comprehend them all.
She could go on and on with all these sad and wonderful memories. She still had to figure out where she was and why she was floating on a cloud. But. The sky was beautiful. She tilted her head back closing her eyes once more and breathing in the crisp air.
"Lucy."
She stood up in a jolt. That voice calling her name again.
"Lucy."
She started running on the clouds. Each step feeling light.
"Damn it Lucy. Wake up!"
She gasped as there was a burst of light. Her eyes were now staring at a pair of dark charcoal colored eyes. She blinked a few times rather confused what was going on. A dream it was. She closed her eyes again and sighed. She touched her face and felt that her cheeks were still moistened from her crying in her sleep. She looked back at Natsu who was kneeling beside her, his hand holding hers. Happy was perched on her other side.
"Natsu?" He pulled her up with the hand he had been holding. "Why am I on the floor?" His stare didn't lessen.
"You kept saying Natsu in your sleep then you rolled off the bed and was crying in your sleep." Happy voiced since Natsu stayed silent. They were in her apartment.
"Oh." She held her head. That's right. Last night was the party of her Book being published. The night started to come to her. She was slightly embarrassed. She had drink way too much. "Natsu, can we talk?" She noticed he never released her hand.
"Sure. What's up Lucy?" Neither of them budged.
"Natsu…I," She stuttered. He leaned down closer to her face.
"Lucy." He said again.
She took a deep breath and began. "There is no denying the truth. I cannot lie to myself or to you anymore about this. These feelings that have just been building up over the years. Everything we've been through. Everything that we have accomplished. The laughs and sorrow. I've always relied on you to be there because you've always been. It was fate that brought us together back in Hargeon where we first met. I've always thought that I would end up alone because I don't let my guard down to feel this kind of emotion. I always feel protected when I'm with you. Safe. You are my best friend and I cant deny that the feelings reached higher than a friend definition. It's been hard to keep the feelings concealed but due to your oblivious personality I'm sure you haven't noticed my slip ups." She paused. "I guess what I am saying is I love you Natsu Dragoneel." She pursed her lips together as she just watched him stare at her more intently. Happy was crying and sniffling as what she had just announced.
"Lucy." Natsu started.
Tears started to form in her eyes. "I'm sorry Natsu for throwing this on you. I am so so sorry." He leaned his forehead against hers and wiped a tear away with his free hand.
"Falling in love was never on my agenda. I have love for my friends and the guild. The love I have for Igneel. But you Lucy, the moment I laid my eyes on you, I had that sudden instinct that I was to always protect you. You're are the most important person to me outside of Happy and Igneel. We are a family as I've stated before." He leaned in even closer to her face. "I know it probably took a lot of courage to tell me that. I appreciate it. I do love you too Lucy even if I have a hard time showing that kind of affection. Don't ever forget that or anything else I have told you." He pulled back and put his lips to her forehead as she was in full fledge tears.
"Lucy. I love you too. You and Natsu mean everything to me." Happy pipped in between sobs. She giggled and smiled through the tears as she pulled Happy closer to them.
"I love you guys." Natsu looked down with a huge grin on his face.
"Lucy?"
"Natsu?" Lucy asked.
"Let's go on a mission!" He grabbed her hand and started yanking her out of the house. Eyes to eyes. Smiles to smiles.
Together forever. Family forever.
