Regina sat in the den, watching the fire consume the wood. Did her magic still work in this place? She had not needed to try it - until now. His loyalty to her was in jeopardy, and he was being easily swayed by that Emma...he could turn on her in a heartbeat despite the hold she had on him - she snapped her fingers - drawing the rage that came from deep inside her twisted heart - she hadn't used this part of her in a long time. She had pretended to be just the one in charge. Neutral. Not particularly kind, not particularly cruel either.
But this stupidity had to stop.
The fire came to her, readily as it always had. There were those like Merlin who had Earth Magic. The Lady of the Lake had Water Magic. But she had Fire Magic - it was the only thing she had left anymore. Certainly not love. She had concern, she had worry, but when she tried to reach for any emotion that she might feel toward Graham - there was still ... nothing. However, this threat between them had to be eliminated.
She hated herself - but she was going to have to use it.
She quietly went out of the house, to the other side of the street. An empty house stood there, and a spark from Regina's fingers grew flames.
She took out her walkie-talkie - her connection to the Police Department. Well, her Department.
"Sherriff, there's a fire across the street from my house," she feigned the sound of someone sounding panicked and trying to pretend they were calm, even though she felt the exact opposite.
She knew he would call Emma - of course he would call Emma.
He was there rather quickly - although he drove when he easily could have walked.
"Second floor," she pointed. "Must be electrical."
"Did you call Marco?" He asked - knowing that in such a town with not brand-new electricity, such a fire could easily spread.
"I - " she paused. "Really didn't think of it."
"Well he can put the fire out better than me."
She took out her cell phone and dialed: "Marco, there's a fire on 2600 Wood - no it's not my house, it's across the street! Get here as soon as you possibily can!"
As soon as she had clicked her phone shut, Emma showed up, running. "What's going on?" She seemed concerned. "No one's inside, are they?" She tried to breathe, a little winded from the run.
Regina turned to her haughtily. "Henry is asleep in his bed, Ms Swan. But Graham will check, won't you, Graham?" She turned to him, and Emma didn't see the look she gave the Sheriff that said: "do it or your out of your position, and you will owe me more than you ever have."
"Of course," he said somewhat automatically.
She gave a timid smile. "Fair enough."
She knew Emma would offer to go in instead - hero that she just had to be. "No Graham, I'll go in, you stay here!
How noble, Regina thought with sarcasm. She must have feelings for him.
The protest she didn't expect. "No, Emma. I'll go. You're in charge till I come back." And that's when he pulled her to him, kissing her on the lips. That was not supposed to happen.
No one noticed the flames shooting up higher in the sky. And with that Graham was gone into the building.
And never came back.
She didn't want to do it, but once something is in motion, one must follow through. Even if it doesn't turn out like you want it to - or that you expect it to be.
