Title: On Earth Some New Convulsion Tear
Fandom: STTOS
Genre: Romance/Angst
Pairing: K/S FTW!
Summary: The moment they touch is cataclysmic.
They're going to die. Scotty's trying so hard to get them even impulse, much less warp, and Uhura's trying just as hard to get through to Starfleet, the Klingon flotilla they're fighting, anybody, but they're going to die.
The red alert sirens are blaring, screaming death in Jim's ears so loud he's going insane –
And there's Spock, still holding his station in the midst of a flaming, smoking bridge full of chaos, a steady, silent force of nature. Good God, he's never told him never said how he feels, never known if it's okay to tell him how he feels in the first place.
A sharp pain tears at his leg as he staggers up to that science console. Probably shrapnel.
But he gets there, leans over next to Spock and grabs his hand. He knows what that means for a Vulcans, for his Vulcan, and he rasps, "Get to an escape pod. Get a shuttle. Go."
Spock shakes his head and pulls him into a short kiss as though it's the easiest, most natural thing he's ever done.
Jim wonders, for a moment, if it is.
Scotty pulls through, and the ship makes it out.
The crew mourns the dozen dead, but breathe a survivor's sigh of relief.
Bones grouses over Jim's leg.
Life goes on almost unchanged.

Author's Note: Yay, it ends happy within the actual context of the fic! I really need to lessen the angst. At least Chapter 9 of ALLLY isn't angst...but that's at least a week and a half from now. I apologize to everybody who's read "The Miserable One," Chapter 7 of ALLLY, and/or "Expulsion from Paradise," especially if one of them made you tear up or cry. I didn't really mean or expect that, although, strong emotional reaction is usually an indication of quality in either extreme of the spectrum...
/end Spock-like ramble
And this is dedicated to frescadp on YouTube; the title came from a poem she used in a K/S video, "The Definition of Love."
