So, six-word challenge meets actual story... Let's see how it goes...

"'We made quite the couple once,'" Gippal grumbled under his breath, rubbing his face roughly. He stalked down the hall, barely paying attention to where he was going. He entered his sleeping quarters with a growl of frustration, slamming the door shut behind. His reflection in the large mirror he kept there caught his eye and he turned around and pointed his finger at it. "You are an idiot," he accused, obviously still upset, "First time you see her in two damn years, and you blow it." Growling again, he hastily removed his armor, uncaring of where it landed in a messy heap, and pulled his shirt over his head, tossing it angrily in the direction of his dirty clothes hamper.
Flopping down on his bed, his too large and cold bed, Gippal felt the last of his rage-inspired energy fade. "I miss her, and yet I keep screwing up…" he murmured to himself, sounding utterly defeated. His eye closed as he remembered back when they were still together.
He was still healing from the shot to the back his supposed friend had given him. Rin had been too nice, taking him in after the destruction of Home until he was healed and able to figure out what his next step was. She was just running errands to fill time, waiting for some clue to take to her cousin to snap her out of the funk Lady Yuna was already rumored to be in. She visited him all the time, once she knew where he was. Something about her caught his attention and wouldn't let go, and it seemed to be the same way for her.
He could still remember her pressed against his side, his hand up the back of that ridiculous excuse of a shirt that always displayed her tempting midriff, all warmth and slow passion. She had scared easily then, when he would gently push for more, and he knew it was because she had seen her cousin's response to losing someone she loved. He had been patient, annoyingly so for his own desires, but something in him refused to let him hurt her.
And then he had finally healed, as much as he was going to (that wound still ached sometimes). Nooj showed up in the rumors again, starting up something, and so had Baralai. Rin, in his quiet way, laid out all the facts. He hadn't seen a choice but to leave and form some sort of middle group to buffer the two, just like he had been the buffer in their group during their time as a Squad.
He was an idiot. He didn't tell her anything about leaving. And now he was paying the price, two years later.
Sighing, Gippal rolled over on to his side. First, he would deal with Vegnagun and anything else left over from the Crimson Squad. And then, hopefully, he could still get Rikku back.
