The Unexpected Surprise
The Unexpected Surprise
Dudley was throwing his cereal at the walls once again. Petunia struggled to control the stubborn boy. "Vernon, honey, please watch Duddykins for a moment. I need to put out the milk bottles." Petunia walked outside and nearly tripped on a bundle of blankets. She had a closer look and saw a baby with a peculiar shaped scar, sleeping away.
She let out an ear-wrenching scream. "What is all the commotion, Petunia?" Vernon questioned. Petunia was left speechless, with all of her milk bottles scattered in her lawn. Vernon walked outside and did just the same as she when he realized what was in the bundle of blankets.
"Wha-what is this child doing on our porch?" Vernon's face turned a bright purple once he realized who the little boy could possibly be. He reached for the corner of the parchment, sticking out of the blankets. The letter was addressed to his wife. The letter was handed to her and she unwillingly opened it.
The letter read:
I am displeased to inform you of the tragedy that occurred on Monday. Your sister, Lily Potter, and her spouse, James Potter, have been tragically murdered by Lord Voldemort, the dark lord of the wizarding community. We do not know what he needed from the two, but after he killed the parents, he tried for their son, Harry. This is puzzling because he failed to kill the child. The mark is left on the boy's forehead. Voldemort is 'gone' or 'defeated' as some like to say and doubtfully returning. This young boy is already famous to the wizarding community. We do not feel as if he needs all the attention at such a young age. We ask of you and your spouse to raise Harry. This is best for him and technically it is your rightful duty as Lily's sister. Please sign the following lines, agreeing to your responsibilities. Stick the parchment inside the nearest bush. A post owl will be here to pick it up soon.
"This is Lily's boy." Petunia stated in a disgusted manner.
"Well, we don't have to keep it. Do we?" Vernon thought he could just let the baby sit there on the porch and not take the boy in as his own responsibility.
"Yes we do, but we mustn't let the neighbors know." Petunia, still looking disgusted took the baby into the cupboard under the stairs. Harry opened his large green eyes, let out a yawn, and went back to sleep. Petunia stared at this child. She heard Vernon tending to Dudley. He will not know what heart she actually has.
Tears streamed down her cheeks. "So young." She laid the young Harry down and kissed him on his scar. Never once would she act the same way to him.
