Quick notes:

First off I decided to use their Japanese names, like I do in most of my fics. Just a heads up. Next, sorry it's late. I actually wrote it before Halloween but didn't get it up till now.

Chapter 1: Kai and Candy Don't Mix

He stumbled in the obscure darkness but quickly picked himself back up. His red and black cloak swayed behind him as he made his way across the darkened room. A devious smile slid across his lips, revealing his unusually large white fangs. A wicked, cruel laugh pierced the eerie silence.

Footsteps could be heard but they were not his own. Whatever joy he had now left him as he sat in the darkness, listening to the footsteps get louder and louder. The door opened slowly to reveal a figure cloaked in white. He let out a fearful cry. The figure pulled a sheet from himself.

"Relax Takao! It's just me, Max." He said as Takao spit out his fake fangs so he could talk. "I knew it was you all along!" He said with a look of relief. "I was just... Uh..." He searched for words but Max interrupted. "It's okay Takao, I understand. Are you ready?" Takao bobbed his head up and down furiously. "You bet I am!" He said enthusiastically. "Let's go get the rest of the guys!" Max nodded his head.

"Well, Kyouju and Hiromi are sick. So they can't come." Max began. Takao looked disappointed. "And Kai said he refused to participate in this foolish child's play." Said Max in dismay. "What?! He can't do that!" Takao replied, clearly upset. "Let's go get him!" He shouted. Max looked at him, surprised. "And do what? Force him into a costume and drag him along with us?" A smile crept onto Takao's face. "Exactly!" Max gave Takao the 'You've got to be joking!' look.

Takao pulled an old pirate costume out of a large wooden chest and shoved it into his knapsack. "Okay let's go get Rei first. So he can help us capture- Erm I mean... No, never mind that is what I meant." Said Takao as he pulled Max out the door. Max sighed in disbelief and decided to go along with it.

"You're going to do what to Kai?!" Rai said almost shouting. "Relax. It'll be good for him to get out for a while! Plus we get to eat all his candy!" Takao said as a look of satisfaction played on his face. "Well..." Rei said weakly. "I guess if it's just for a little while." Takao jumped up excitedly. "Yes!" Rei looked back. "I'll go get my costume on. Be right back!" He said making his way into his house.

A few minutes later, as Takao was convincing Max this was the "perfect" scheme, Rei walked out in a samurai costume. "Cool costume, dude." Max said giving Rei the 'thumbs up' sign. Rei blushed slightly. "Thanks! It took me a while to get it right." He said, walking towards them. "Okay let's go!" Takao said in anticipation. Max and Rei half-nodded. Takao chuckled and pulled them along.

Takao knocked on Kai's door. No one answered. "Maybe he's asleep?" Max offered. Takao bent his wrist to check the time. "At 7:30?" Takao said sarcastically. Just then the door opened and Kai came out with a surprised look on his face. "I suppose, you expect a free handout?" Takao was going to answer but before he could, Kai went back into the house and shut the door. "What now?" Said Rei. Then the door opened again and Kai slipped a can of soda into each of their trick-or-treat bags. They looked into their bags curiously. "There. Now leave me alone." He said getting ready to shut the door. Takao grabbed his shoulder. "Wait that's not what we came for!" He said pulling Kai back outside. "What then? You can't possibly expect me to participate-" But Rei interrupted before he could finish. "Sorry, Kai." He said grabbing Kai's arm. "Hey! What exactly is going on here?" Kai said trying to pull away.
