I don't know...
Clueless
What was I even doing anymore?
Penny sat in their living room, tired. Not physically, but emotionally.
She and Leonard had been married for four years, and the first two were amazing. Things got rocky on the third, and now they were always at each other's throats.
She wasn't sure why she had accepted his proposal, she did love him, but he wasn't one hundred percent everything she wanted or dreamed of. She supposed no one was perfect and Leonard was as close as she was going to get.
He never cheated on her, but he was an enabler. It seemed as if he cared more about hurting other people's feelings than her own, and she was the one that mattered. She was his wife, and his life-partner, but he had no problem upsetting her. He was just a lot quicker to do something for a random female, opposed to her. Not only that, he also was notorious for promising things he never held true.
She once told him she didn't feel appreciated or loved by him anymore. He promised he'd start showing her how much he loves her and just do the small things, so she knows it. It's been a whole year, and nothing has changed. Every time she brings it up, he makes her feel like she's nagging him.
Despite all of that, she still loves him. She still tries her hardest. No, she doesn't make as much money as him, and she's not as money-savvy as him but she tries her hardest to appeal to him and show him how much he means to her.
So, there she sat on the sofa they both picked out for their living room on his birthday. It was going onto one in the morning now and around twelve thirty he said he'd be home. She wanted to spend the end of his birthday with him, talking and having a romantic evening. He said he was going to have a guy's night though, video games and wings.
Turns out a guy's night turned into a guy's night plus a few girls.
She found out because social media was never good at keeping secrets.
When she messaged him, he took nearly an hour to reply. Annoyed, she told him he was going to go to bed and to enjoy the rest of the night –and he should be able to read between the lines. She was angry.
It took him thirty minutes to reply and all he said was 'thanks'.
She damn near threw her phone at the wall. Your wife is angry, and all you say is 'Thanks'?
Penny looked at the clock, it was well past one in the morning now and the more time ticked on, the angrier she felt herself get. She had put up with so much from him for so long, and God knows she's not perfect but at least she puts in an effort. She comes home when she says she will. She texts him immediately. She actually encourages him to do better. When she says it's a girl's night, she doesn't mean girls night plus a few guys. It's just always been the little things with Leonard, and they've pushed her over the edge.
She was thirty-two, she wasn't going to waste her life in a love diminishing marriage.
'R u awake?'
Her phone beeped right away.
'Unfortunately, yes.'
'Want some company?'
The response was immediate.
'Your presence is always welcome in my apartment; I look forward to it.'
She smiled and blushed slightly to herself. She looked herself over in the mirror and grabbed her keys.
If Leonard wouldn't appreciate her, maybe Sheldon would.
