On a bright and early morning Lina Inverse awoke from her sleep to a loud knock on her inn room door. She got out of bed and answered it. She was about to yell at who ever was there for disturbing her but didn't when she saw a frightened and yet serious delivery man and the inn manager of where she was staying standing in the doorway.
"Were sorry to disturb you, Miss Inverse, but we were told it was an emergency from your hometown. Its a letter from your aunt concerning your grandmother." The hotel manager seemed almost scared when he finally coughed up what he was saying. The postman handed Lina the letter and left as quick as he came with the manager following behind.
Later that morning after Lina got her three friends up and dressed, she gave Zelgadis, her cimara friend, the letter to read out loud.
"Dear Lina,
On March 10 this year I am holding the funeral of my mother, your grandmother. I thought you might want to attend. I am hoping to see you there.
Aunt Lindsey"
"Should we go?" Asked Amelia, the youngest member of the party.
"That''s for Lina to decide." Zelgadis replied. "If she thinks it's important, we shouldn't try to stop her."
Lina thought for a moment. "Of coarse we aren't going! We've got better things to do then go to some dumb funeral. Besides, how would we get there?"
"We could rent some horses. Its not very far and we have enough money." Said Amelia.
"Hey, what's that on the back?" Asked the skilled swordsman, Gourry, as he pointed to the back of the letter Zelgadis was holding.
Lina grabbed the note from Zelgadis and read what Gourry saw.
"P.S. Did I mention that your grandmother had a hidden safe that she left for one of the family on her will? It will be announced who will get it at the funeral."
Lina jumped up. "OKAY! Were going!"
"Of coarse the chance of getting some money would change your mind..." Said Gourry.
"Shut up Gourry! Were going to go claim that secret treasure!" Lina hit Gourry hard in the face like she usually did when she was mad at him.
"But what if it's for someone else?" Asked Amelia. Lina shot her an evil glare. "I-I'll arrange a carriage."
"I'll start packing..." Said Zelgadis.
