The One He Didn't Name

God didn't give me a name,

Nor a family, nor a home,

He didn't give me any fame,

Nor a future written in stone,

Yet I am just a soldier,

Whose wars must someday end,

And I have many battle scars

Which only time can mend.

Now through the years, there's people,

Who my empty heart defends,

Some treat me as a brother,

Some treat me as their friends.

But there's one person who stands alone,

Defying length of time,

Whose soul is still reminding me,

She fills my final rhyme.

I dared to somehow trust her,

And if my heart could feel,

The tears that I could muster,

Would never be concealed.

I've told myself from being a boy,

That life is never fair,

Death, betrayal just happen,

It's a cross you have to bear.

And if our futures brought us,

To the place in which we stood,

And showed us what it taught us,

I sometimes wish it would.

And if I saw your face again,

I'd see your colours true,

Yes God didn't give me a name,

Instead He gave me you.
