Remus' arms hurt. Remus' legs hurt. Remus' everything hurt. Somehow, he had made his way out of the shrieking shack last night, and somehow, he was in the forbidden forest. And somehow, he was hurt. Very badly. He tried to move his legs, but they wouldn't even twitch. His arm hurt much too badly to move. His head was spinning and he slowly slipped into unconsciousness. The last thing he heard was feet running through the forest.
"'ow on earth did he get 'ere? "A familiar voice said, sounding concerned. 'No idea." Said another, also strangely familiar, voice. Remus stirred and opened his eyes slowly. He saw five blurry figures standing over him, three of whom were holding a wand. "Guys, he's waking up…" Remus felt an arm lift him up into a sitting position, and Remus screamed in pain. The figure jumped back in shock as Remus hyperventilated.
His arm hurts his leg hurts his head hurts his brain hurts everything hurts and it won't stop, why won't it stop, make it stop….
Remus woke up again, this time in the Hospital wing. His vision was still blurry but the pain in his head and arms had subsided. His legs though… They burnt as though fire was coursing through them. He winced with every new jab of pain that shot through his legs. No, from his legs. The insides of his legs were fighting back against… something.
Madame Pomphrey walked in. "Your friends brought you here. I didn't know that they were aware of your… ailment."
Remus cringed as a new shot of pain began to grow in his leg, then shot through the bone like an arrow. He gasped and winced, holding his leg up to his chest.
"Bone regrowing potion." Madam Pomphrey said. "Very painful. It's going to be a long night I'm afraid."
Remus looked out the window. Somehow, it was already night. The now new moon was simply a tiny slither in the distance, barely even there. He turned his head to go to sleep before noticing someone else beside him, propped up on his pillow. Sirius.
"Hi" Sirius said simply.
"What happened?" Remus replied worriedly. His greatest fear danced through his brain like pixies on a blue moon. Did I hurt him, was it me? If it was he would never forgive me, I would never forgive myself.
Sirius saw the look on his face. "No Remus it's okay, it wasn't you, I tripped over a stick when I was running to you."
'W-what exactly… happened last night?" Remus asked.
"Well," A voice said from the other side of the hospital (The voice belonged to an obviously badly injured James), "We, as you probably remember, were late last night. You… The wolf, got angry and escaped and scratched itself. But it was mad to have no friends with it, and went even further. It banged into a tree repeatedly and broke its bones."
"At least that's what we assume happened, based on how we found you and your surroundings." Said Sirius.
Remus hadn't even noticed that he was crying. The hot tears slipped down his face, made cool instantly by the freezing hospital air and freezing his face in tiny liquid icicles. "I'm sorry" He said pathetically, as his bones filled in another crack of themselves and he cringed.
"There's nothing to be sorry for, mate." James called from across the room. "You can't control your… furry little problem, and it doesn't bother us at all." Sirius nodded in agreement and Remus smiled weakly. Sirius reached across the bed and carefully hugged Remus. Remus welcomed the embrace and cried happily. He fell asleep feeling incredibly thankful for his amazing friends.
