Meet Me Under the Parasitic Strangle-Bush
by Ky

Summary: Lucrecia can't understand why mistletoe would be romantic, but Vincent doesn't care. Vincent x Lucrecia. For Liz.
Genre: Romance
Rating: G
Word Count: 177
Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy VII, and everything I know about mistletoe is thanks to Wikipedia. The bit about the Cetra is based on mistletoe's use as a folk remedy in some cultures.

Notes: For Liz, for the Fandom Holiday Drabble Exchange. I apologize for another ridiculous title.

Vincent was surprised that Lucrecia's high-heeled boots allowed her to walk in so much snow. He was having trouble shuffling through it, so he supposed her ease in movement despite impractical clothing would remain one of life's mysteries. He followed her footprints through the white powder. "Where are we going?"

All the trees looked the same to Vincent, but she stopped in front of a particular one, drawing his attention to the tangled cluster of green leaves in its branches. "Mistletoe. The Cetra and other ancient races across the world believed in its magical properties, but it's actually a parasite that will one day strangle the tree it lives on, and its berries are poisonous to eat. Isn't it funny that people kiss under this to spread holiday cheer?"

Vincent thought about their surroundings: gray from the dead trees, white from the snow, and brown from the cluster of buildings that was Nibelheim in the distance. "This place could use some cheer. And look, we are standing under it."

Lucrecia laughed, throwing her arms around his neck.
