It's cheesy, but I was bored so I thought what the hell. Ha-ha! Oh and "Barry" just sounded like a funny name for a bully to have. Ha-ha! I hope no one named Barry reads this… Oh, and Jay and Silent Bob are the shit! Woo! Okay, okay I'm done.
I had just finished running a series of lay-ups when I felt something tug on my shirt and introduce my ass to the cold, cement floor. I looked up and as I feared, Barry Smith and Samuel Jenkins were standing above me, grinning and holding my basketball.
"What do you two want?"
Barry looked down at me with that condescending grin that makes my stomach turn violently in anticipation of what is to come.
"This is my basketball, Truscott. And this is my hoop. So just get out of my sight."
Before I pathetically obeyed I felt a strong hand on my arm lift me up. I looked up and saw a boy from my grade. He was considerably taller than Barry and Samuel. His hair was dark brown and messy, so I couldn't see his eyes but when he spoke you could tell he was angry.
"Give her back the ball, Barry."
"Oken? What do you want? " Barry was beginning to sweat profusely. Whoever this guy was, he was making Barry nervous, and I liked it.
"I'm pretty sure you and Silent Bob over to your right heard me," he said motioning to Samuel. This Oken kid was still holding my arm and then quite protectively stepped in front of me like a human shield. I decided it was time for me to speak up. I nudged "Oken" lightly with my elbow and he looked down at me. His eyes were as dark as his hair, and yet there was nothing intimidating about them. Not when he looked at me at least.
"I got this, Oken." I reached over to Barry and took my basketball. Barry's jaw dropped as I grinned mischievously at him with the confidence of my newfound bodyguard. I looked up at Oken and he just smiled at me the goofiest smirk imaginable. How could Barry be so afraid of him? He was, in one word, endearing. I started to dribble the ball around Barry and his lackey, taunting him. I was loving every second of it but apparently Barry and Samuel made a threatening motion towards me and Oken pulled me back.
"Alright kiddo, you had your fun." He grinned at me again and I couldn't help but give him an ear-to-ear smile. Barry and Silent Bob, I mean, Samuel finally made their exit.
"Sorry if I got a little carried away Oken. I just really hate those guys."
"It's fine. I don't like them either. I've seen them push you around before and I just couldn't let it continue." He then took the ball from my hand and smiled at me. I felt my knees weaken.
"You know something Oken? This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship." With that I stole the ball from him and headed off towards the basket.
"It's Oliver, by the way."
"Hmm… Oliver. I like it. I'm Lilly. Lilly Truscott." I extended my hand to introduce myself officially.
"Lilly. Hmm… I like it."
I love basketball.
