Summary: Just a short little idea that popped into my head a while ago. Luna comes home from a days work at the Quibler and gets mugged.
It was getting dark, and the streets of London were emptying out slowly. Briefly, Luna thought of trying to call the yellow muggle cars, Tackies, did Harry call them, but knew that wouldn't work. Their house was well hidden from muggles, and she wasn't quite sure she knew how to give directions to a supposedly empty alley a few blocks down.
As a tall man in a hat approached, she caught a glimpse of a gutter fairie, and turned her head to watch it fly over a near by roof top. Suddenly, the man was in front of her, muggle gun trained on her steadily.
"Give me your purse." He ordered her. She blinked.
"Pardon?" The man seemed taken aback.
"Gimme your purse, lady!" He said louder.
"Oh," Luna said before her eyes grew wide with recognition. "Oooh! Oh! You're mugging me! Harry told me all about muggers. Oh, how fascinating!"
"Just give me your bag." The man said in exasperation.
"Right. Oh, it won't due you much good, though," Luna said, handing over the black bag. "I've just got a few muggle pens and a candy cane. But here."
Luna reached into her pockets and produced a crumpled five pound note and change, the only muggle money she carried. She grinned happily as she offered it to the man, who snatched it out of her hand and took off running down the street at top speed.
"Good luck with whatever financial troubles are causing you to rob me!" Luna shouted, standing on her toes to get the message across. Then she repeated to herself : "Fascinating."
She continued on her way, eventually making it to their flat. Harry stood by the table looking threw a pile of letters. He looked up at her and grinned.
"Hello, sweets." He said, putting the parchment down and embracing her. She hugged him back and began to take her coat off. "Anything interesting happen today?"
"Oh, yes. We have a lead, thanks to that exclusive with the ex-ministry worker. We feel we're getting close." Luna now worked part time with her father on theQuibler. "Oh!I almost forgot to mention.I wasmugged." Harry's demeanor changed instantly.
"What? Are you alright? Did he hurt you?" He was by her side instantly, checking her over for injuries.
"Oh, no. He was completely harmless, you'll be pleased to know. Polite, even. I gave him my.. what do youcall it? wallet? andanote. It was so interesting, Harry." She gushed, having neverencountered a mugger before.
"You could've been hurt." He moaned, hugging her again. He wished she would understand it better, what could've happened.
"ButI wasn't. I did just as you said, handed over valuables, didn't put upa fight. And it worked!" Luna replied, disentangling herself from his arms and heading over to the letters on thecoffee table. One was from Mr. and Mrs. Ronald and Hermoine Weasley. Another from the ministry."It reminds me of the time we offered that Lysoliner some granola as a peace offering, and it letus alone!"
Luna continued to happily describe the encounter, comparing itto the three horned Lysoliner beast, as Harry leaned in the door frame smiling slightly.
