Jim trudged down the hall of the academy until he reached the mess hall. He
wasn't exactly surprised to see Kaira already there. In fact, she was the reason for his
lousy mood. How did a lowlife thief like her sneak their way into the academy and what
was she doing there, anyway? It definitely wasn't because of him. After their first
encounter when he'd caught her robbing a band of pirates blind Jim tended to get on her
nerves just as much as she got on his.
"You think she's hot?" Jim's friend Wes sat opposite him at the table
That's when Jim realized with embarrassment that he'd been staring. Unfortunately, it
was also when Wes decided to take it upon himself to help Jim with his love life
"She's the most insufferable person in the galaxy, and you can tell her I said that."
Jim whispered
Tell her is exactly what Wes decided to do. Only when he got to Kaira he decided
to embellish a little.
"Jim wants you to know that his love for you burns brighter than the heat of a
thousand suns."
"You really expect me to believe he said that?" She quirked an eyebrow, and Wes
sat back down with Jim.
"Your words cut deeper than a knife." Wes shook his head at Jim in mock shame.
"That girl? All she's done is try to ruin my life!" Jim's words sent Wes into
Suddenly singing (very off key),
"She's cold and she's cruel, but she knows what she's doing. She knows just what
to say so my whole day is ruined." At that point Wes jumped on the table and everyone
was staring to see who was making all the ruckus. Although most of them stopped when
they realized it was just Wes being, well, Wes. "Cause she's bittersweet, she knocks me
off of my feet. And I can't help myself I don't want anyone else. She's a mystery, she's
too much for me, but I keep coming back for more. She's just the girl I'm looking for."
Jim's face was buried in his hands and Kaira was just staring at the show. Wes
jumped off the table to tell her,
"That was something Jim asked me to do to let you know that the thought of life
without you is worse than being boiled in oil and mauled by Candarian bears." Then Wes
made his way back to the table, unaware that Kaira had followed him.
"Did she say something?" Jim asked, noticing Kai was right behind him.
"She says she thinks you're the sexiest boy in the universe." Wes smiled, then his
smile quickly disappeared and he turned around to find Kaira with her arms folded
smiling in an 'if you only knew how much trouble you're in' kind of way.
"You'd better start sleeping with your eyes open, dear big brother of mine."
