Red Rain
This fic was inspired by a line from rayemars fanfic called The Inevitable. If you like mine check hers out and please review. Also I do not own any of the Naruto characters, because if I did Sasuke and Naruot would be in a hot makeout scene in chaptera 307 & 308.
The day that he had been dreading was finally here. Looking out into the rain Sasuke could not miss the irony. It started raining on that day too. Even though it has been over five years since he had returned and eight since the actual date, Sasuke clearly remembers the day he left Konoha. Remembers how he left his best friend dying in the mud as he walked away. He did not finish Naruto off that day but it seems that fate will not be denied.
Sasuke is not surprised he is the one to be asked to do the deed. He has been preparing himself for this moment ever since he noticed the changes occurring. They had not been big changes, just scars widening and eyes going from blue to red at odd times. Sasuke realizes that he is not surprised that someone he cares about is about to be ripped away. However it will be by his hand this time. For the council has decide that Naruto was becoming a liability. Despite the Hokage and others reassurance, the council still fears the Kyuubi is taking over.
So on this day Sasuke has been ordered by the Hokage herself to kill Naruto. Sasuke wonders if is would have been easier if he was not so attached to the dobe. But looking back Sasuke can not regret the last four years. His relationship with Naruto helped him mend some of those wounds he had created. While during this Naruto began slowly mending Sasuke himself. Sasuke mind wonders back to the thought he had when he first notices the changes. That if he gains the mangekyou sharingan by killing Naruto then he will gouge his eyes out. He thinks it is a good idea because not stand the sight he sees.
Naruto had come in complaining about stupid sensei and their weird quirks. It seems that he had ran into Kakashi on his way home. The Jounin had said something about extra training that Naruto needed and suggested that doing it while it rained would help. Not saying much more Kakashi disappeared muttering about dolphin and distractions. That is what led to Sasuke to be on the training field with Naruto dying in his arms. As the life fades away from the blue eyes, Sasuke sees understanding in their depths and that hurt the most. It is that understanding that leads Sasuke to do what he does next.
As he feels the final wheel starting to emerge Sasuke take the kunai that killed Naruto digs both his eyes out. He is found later by Anbu that had been sent out. Sasuke is there when they hold Naruto's funeral. He stands motionsly as Sakura cries beside him, and when it is over he returns to their house and breaks. For even though his eyes are gone he still sees Naruto and it kills him.
