A/N: In honour of the beginning of filming for Season 2, I give you another ONE SHOT DRABBLE. This is set anywhere before the Season 1 finale.

Kono is a bit OCC, she could kick his ass if she wanted but I wanted the guys to go all big brother. Reviews are welcome. Constructive criticism is helpful but rude, nasty or vulgar comments will be removed.

This story is not beta'd, all mistakes are mine.

I am uncertain about the ending but this is the way my muse works.

Sometimes Kono Kalakaua wondered why she ever became a cop. Sometimes she wondered why she said "I'm listening." to Steve McGarrett on the beach the first time they met.

Sometimes she wondered what could have been if she didn't bust her knee when surfing. She wondered how different her life would have been.

Today was the kind of day that those questions jumped to the front of her mind.

After a long case involving dead bodies: (more than she could count), interviewing witnesses: (normal), collecting evidence: (normal), explosions: (normal when Steve McGarrett is around) and more than one shootout: (becoming normal), which left them emotionally and physically drained, the four members of the taskforce made their way back to their HQ, exhausted and worn out.

As they passed a HPD cop they heard what sounded like 'love to get my hands on that ass.'

Unfortunately for him, three of the four people walking up the stairs heard him and turned around with murderous glares on their faces. The fourth person stopped climbing the stairs as she felt the atmosphere change around her.

She found her three partners glaring at a cop. The small, blond man of the group began to speak very quietly.

"You better not have said what I think you just said."

"I think he said what you think he said," replied the tall dark haired man.

The other man who looked more like a local than the other two responded with, "You better apologise to the lady before you find yourself on your ass."

The cop, who didn't know any better, responded with, "What, I was just complementing her on her excellent figure."

Kono, now understanding what was going on, moved towards the cop and said with as much vehemence as she could muster, "I don't need anyone complementing me on my figure while I'm at work and I certainly don't want you complementing me at all." Kono turned around and began walking back upstairs until she heard Steve's voice.

"I believe you still owe the lady an apology."

The cop began to say something that probably wouldn't be well received until he looked up and saw all three men glaring at him again.

"I apologise, I should not have said that."

"No, you shouldn't have." said Kono as she turned on her heel and headed back up the stairs, the guys following behind her.

As they walked into HQ, each on a path to their own offices the guys heard Kono say, "Mahalo for sticking up for me."

Yes, there were some days that Kono wondered why she chose this life. But today she felt the camaraderie and respect of the guys.

Sometimes the guys acted like big brothers trying to protect their little sister. Sometimes it made her want to pull her hair out but sometimes, like today, it made her feel a part of their ohana.
