The night before they left Trebond, Thom snuck into Alanna's room. She was still awake; he could hear her breathing. He stood by her doorway, unsure.
'Don't you change on me,' he whispered.
Alanna mumbled something.
'Promise,' he hissed furiously. 'Promise we'll always stay the same.'
Alanna grumpily murmured that she'd do whatever he said, if only he'd let her sleep. But it was enough for him; she had promised.
