Disclaimer: I don't own this, quite obviously.

Ginny sat in the corner of the Gryffindor common room, completely immersed in her potions homework. As always, she had waited until the last minute to complete her essay; it was due the next day and it was already quickly approaching midnight. She read over the small paragraph once, twice, three times before she slumped back in her chair.

"3 rolls of parchment," She muttered to herself. "and there's barely 3 sentences about it in this damned book," She slammed her battered copy of Magical Drafts and Potions shut with a sigh.

Ginny felt the hairs rise on the back of her neck. She twisted around in her chair to see Hermione sitting on the large couch in front of the fire. Though her eyes were not on the large book in her lap, they were on the stressed out ginger girl in the corner, who was now eying Hermione curiously.

"Hermione?" Ginny called out. "Hermione, you're staring,"

The brunettes eyes snapped up to meet Ginny's before returning to her book. "Was I? Sorry, must have spaced out,"

Ginny lifted herself out of the stiff wooden chair and walked over to the couch Hermione was situated on.

"What's up?" Ginny asked.

Hermione's eyes never left her book. "Nothing. It doesn't matter,"

the younger girl nudged Hermione's shoulder with her own. "Hey, you can tell me. What are best friends for?"

The older witch closed her book and turned to face Ginny. "I was just...wondering about something,"

Ginny tilted her head, "What?"

Hermione moved closer to the ginger. "Close your eyes." She commanded.

Ginny raised an eyebrow, but obeyed nonetheless. She heard Hermione shift in front of her. Ginny nearly jumped when she felt soft lips brush against hers. Ginny leaned the rest of the way in and captured Hermione's lips with hers. They both sat there touching lips until Hermione pulled away and before Ginny had even opened her eyes, the book was already back on Hermione's lap and she continued on reading as though nothing had even happened.

Ginny sat in the same position, lips halfway parted and freckles almost hidden by the pink tinge to her cheeks. After a few moments the young witch spoke.

"And?"

Hermione looked up. "And what?"

"Did you-" Ginny cleared her throat. "Are you still wondering?"

Hermione merely sighed and said, "Hmm,"

"Hmm? That's all?" Ginny asked, a bit annoyed. Hermione had just kissed her and all she'd had to say was 'hmm?'

Hermione said nothing. Ginny stood up and walked over to gather her homework into a neat pile. "I'll just fail Snape's bloody essay then," she said to herself before she looked over to the couch again. The 4th year Gryffindor squared her shoulders and walked up to Hermione. She plucked the book out of Hermione's hands, ignoring the girls protests, then shut it and placed it on the table with her homework.

"Gin, what are you-" Ginny cut Hermione off by placing her lips on hers firmly. Hermione gasped before reaching up to tangle her fingers into flaming red locks. Ginny's hands found her way to Hermione's shoulders and she slowly lowered her onto her back. She then moved her hands to cup the brunettes face before pulling back, her chest heaving and her face flushed.

The two girls just gazed at each other before Ginny broke the silence.

"That was worth more than just a 'hmm', I hope,"

Hermione said nothing, only grinned as she pulled Ginny down for another kiss.

I'll take that as a yes, then.
