Cold air rushed around the fellowship as they plodded along on top Cahadras. They weren't going to make it if they turned back they would freeze to death, but right now their luck wasn't any better. Gimli looked out into the distant hiding is coldness the best he could. Legolas stood and watched that was all he could do it pained him to see all this pain and not be able to do anything about it. Boromir sat a little farther than everyone one else one thought ruled his mind, "what if." Gandalf and Aragorn talked in hushed quick voices worried about an unknown cause. All the hobbits were cuddled together save Sam. Frodo was weariest of them all is face was pale his lips were bluing. Sam had something on his mind something that would not go away his eyes grew with sudden acknowledgement he knew what he had to do, but was reluctant. The Ring weighed heavily on Frodo; Frodo would be dead within minutes. Frodo drifted out of consciousness the others worrying for his safety if Frodo didn't destroy the ring no one else could. It was in that moment when all hope began to fade that it dawned on Sam what he must do he took off his cloak, walked over to Frodo and wrapped it around him. Then, he took his extra blanket and tucked it around Frodo. Everyone else watched in awe yet no one protested. Sam shivered as he walked away a couple feet sat down and faded. The hobbits wept softly, all held the same acknowledgement, it had to be done. A couple minutes later while every one shivered in the cold a moth flew by; Gandalf caught it and whispered something in its ear. Eyes widened every one was thinking it, "The eagles are coming!" "Hope is rekindled," Aragorn said. Within moment 4 huge eagles swept up to where they lay. Everyone stood up in awe, Frodo stirred. With every ounce of energy in them they climbed onto the Eagles; one by one they flew away. Frodo glanced around him in search of Sam and his eyes fell upon a blued version of Sam. Then Frodo realized everything Sam had laid down his life for him. He began to weep bitterly as the eagle flew off. He cried until the eagle stopped and brought them to the Mines of Moria. Frodo never forgot what Sam had done for him and during the journey to Mount Doom one thought was on his mind, "Sam laid his life down so I could destroy this evil once and for all I had better destroy it!"
A/N: I
just thought of writing this because I've always liked the verse:
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for
his friends.
John 15:13
