Empty Room

He sits on the window sill, staring out into the night sky at the snow falling gently to the ground. The only sound in the Common Room is the blazing fire crackling merrily. He looks so serene, that for a moment I contemplate going back upstairs to my dorm room where I'll be safe- untouched.

Then his head whips around and our gazes meet. His green eyes are striking behind his round, boyish glasses. As I approach, I can see the toll the past few months have taken on him. I don't know what it is he's searching for with Ron and Hermione, but it has created dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep and, even though he is sitting peacefully, I can tell he' restless.

I cross the room, my feet padding silently across the plush, red carpet, and sit cross-legged facing him. I take one of his hands in one of mine and follow his gaze out the window.

We don't speak. To do so would only ruin the calm we find just being near each other. I know that neither of us will mention this night tomorrow morning, or for many mornings after that. And maybe not even when the war is over- provided we get the chance. But for right now, we are together.

He shifts his position and I move with him so that I can lie encircled in his arms. He rests his chin on my shoulder and breaths in the flowery scent of my hair I know he loves so well.

The sun's rays shining down on the newly whitened world wakes me. My forehead is pressed against the cold glass and a warm blanket is wrapped snugly around me. I know at once that he is gone, and as I turn my gaze out the window I wonder if he was even there to begin with.

A/N: I know that was just a quick drabble, but please review! I love hearing what you think! Also, this was not beta read, so please forgive any mistakes. Cheers!
