I paced worrisomely throughout the house. Today was the day of the dreaded trial. Of course, Atticus went bravely to defend the accused black man. He seemed incapable of backing down from anything that threatened his conscience. Even in this hard situation, he remained determined. I truly envy his strength. In my heart, I knew that Tom Robinson was innocent. However, our family's place in our community could not be threatened by this one unfortunate situation. By standing up to defend Tom Robinson, Atticus doomed all of us.
