MY BROTHER'S KEEPER
Post-Bedtime Stories.
Sam had shot the demon in the head. He shook his head, he'd be damned to let them bastards hurt his brother. He stared at the corpse, a bit of remorse in his eyes; then again, he did it for his brother. He knew that he'd pissed off another demon, stronger than this one, but he knew deep inside that Dean was going to be pissed as hell when he learned what Sam had done. He sighed; the matter of the fact was that Sam wasn't ready to lose his brother just yet. He wasn't ready to face the fact that he would have to live alone, without Dean, without his father and it was unfair. He'd lost Jess and gotten over it with some guilt, but he had his father and Dean, if he lost Dean after all that had happened, he knew he would never forgive himself. He rather join the forces of Hell than to live alone without his brother. Turmoil etched itself within him; he'd bitten back all the pain and anguish that was slowing building inside him. Hell, he would go to Hell and back just to save Dean if that was meant to be. Nothing in the world would stop him either, he go down fighting.
With a shrug, he dug up the box at the Crossroads and placed both that and the Colt into his backpack. He smoothed the rock and looked over to the corpse in disdain. He felt bad for taking the young woman's life but the demon had control over her and they both had to go. He felt nothing towards the killing, the demons had to die, and it was his only chance in saving Dean.
He walked away and headed back for the motel. Quietly he unlocked the door to their room and entered. Dean lay sprawled on his stomach, sleeping soundly. He placed his bag on the floor next to his bed, took off his boots and lay in his bed. He took a deep breathe and relaxed. It was only when his breathing evened did Dean spoke, scaring the crap out of Sam.
"Where did you go Sammy?" his brother asked as Sam turned and looked at his brother. His eyes were content on getting answers.
"Nowhere. I went for a walk for some air."
"That's bull and you know it." He paused and glanced at the dirty boots. "You didn't go where I think you did?"
Sam shrugged; he was getting bored with Dean. Everytime something bad happened Dean had to protect him and this time he needed to do the protecting. "I went out, let it go Dean."
Dean rose and grabbed his brother by the arm. Sam swung away and rose from the other side of the bed. "Dean, I did this for YOU! I'm not going to let you go."
Dean shook his head, "What the Hell did you do Sam?"
"I tried to bargain you out of your contract."
Dean hissed, "And why would you do such a stupid thing like that?"
"I don't know, hell Dean! You don't deserve to die!"
"Well you don't deserve to be dead. So we're even."
Sam glared at Dean, Dean did the same back and both brothers fumed.
"I'll be fine Sammy, just let it be. But first, what did you do?"
Sam smirked, "I summoned the demon and blew her away with the Colt."
"Damnit."
"She was surprised I had the balls to do such a thing."
"I'm surprised too. What has gotten into you Sam?"
"Nothing."
"No nothing. You've changed and I am going to find out why. Sooner or later Sam, this whole thing is going to come crashing down on us."
"And when it does," he looked at Dean, "I'm going to kick some major ass."
