Disclaimer: I don't own Mulberry.

Note: All right, so I ship it. A lot. I mean, they ride tandems together! How could not you not ship it?!

. . .

What's the point of being bloody immortal is you have to get up in the night to use the loo? Mulberry stretched, rolling his tired shoulders. He shuffled down the hall toward the stairs. A slight noise made him pause outside Miss Farnaby's room. It was as if a kitten was mewling for its mother. He pressed his ear to the door; the sound was clearly coming from inside.

The door creaked as he pushed it open. "Miss Farnaby?"

The sound stopped. "Go away."

"No, not until you tell me what wrong," he closed the door behind him and took a step toward the bed.

"Go away!"

The bed made a noise not unlike the door when he sat. "Miss Farnaby, there is something wrong and I will not leave until you tell me what it is."

Miss Farnaby turned on the light so she could frown properly at her mischievous servant. "Go. Away."

"Shan't."

She sighed and shook her head. "You promise to leave if I tell you?"

"Yes."

"Very well," she rubbed her eyes. "I had a nightmare. Now, you promised. Leave."

"Not until you tell me what it was about."

"Not a chance," Miss Farnaby scowled, slapping him away. "Leave."

Despite several sharp hits to his stomach and chest, Mulberry scooted closer. "What about?"

She snapped the light off and lay down.

"What about?"

He almost didn't hear her when she spoke. "It was my sisters. I dreamed that we were at a party together. They kept getting bright and brighter until they fairly shone. Meanwhile, I started to fade away to nothing. After the party I followed my sisters back to this house. No one remembered me. They went on living as though I had never even existed."

Her voice broke.

Mulberry curled an arm around her waist and pulled her into his arms.

"What are you doing?! Unhand me!"

He just pulled her closer.

Finally, her protests stopped. She gripped his arm and curled her legs into his. He was warm, startlingly so, and comfortable. She snuggled into his embrace. Miss Rose Farnaby felt completely at peace for the first time in a long time.
