Anywhere but here
Sunday's were not Gaia's favorite day of the week. It was very depressing to her. Nothing good came on television and the malls all closed early. Not that she liked going to the mall but anyting was better than staying with Ella all day. Maybe she should go to the park. It was three o'clock and her day was wasting away at home watching television.
The phone rang. "Hello,"
"Wassup?" Mary asked,
"Nuffin, you?" Gaia said back.
"Chilling, ya know." Mary said. "We're going to have a cookout. Do you wanna come over?"
"No," Gaia said, "That's ok. But thanks."
"It wasnt a question." Mary said. "It was a statement."
"Oh," Gaia said.
"Do you really want to be at home? When you can be eating steaks and hot dogs and hamburgers with all the barbecue sauce. And dont forgot the salads." Mary said.
It sounded so good it made Gaia's mouth water. "I'd rather be anywhere but here."
"That's the Gaia I like." Mary said, "Be here at 4:30."
"Ok," Gaia said."I'll be there."
It felt good to have good friends. She headed downstairs. And out the door. "Where the hell do you think your going?"
The voice made her stomach turn. Ella. "Out."
"To..."
"None of your business. That's where." Gaia said,
"No your not. We are all going out to eat tongiht at five." Ella said.
"Go ahead, I'm not going to stop you." Gaia said as she slammed the door.
First stop the doughnut shop, second Mary's.
The doughnut shop was crowded when she made her way in. When did doughnut shops get crowded? Then she saw a guy with a gun. A stick-up. She laughed. What type of person would rob a doughnut shop? SHe couldnt stop laughing.
"What the hell are you laughing at bitch?" The robber asked.
She shut up. "Nuffin."
"Now give me everything you have." He said pointing the gun at her. He had already taken everything from everyone else. "What did you come here for?"
Oh my god, was this Ella's brain dead long lost brother? "Duh," Gaia said, "Doughnuts. Krispy Kremes to be exact."
He pointed the gun at her waist. "Give me all your money."
Bad move. She kneed the gun away. And with thata swift kick to his face and down he was. "Call the police."
She kneed him in his back. The police came. Gaia went to buy her box of doughnuts.
"Take them, they're on the house."
"Thanks," Gaia said,
Wehn she made it to Mary's it was five. It smelled real good. The grill, the smell of hambugers and hotdogs.
"Hey," Mary said.
"Hey," Gaia said.
"Come on a relax and enjoy yourself." Mary said, "Ed's already here."
"Good," Gaia said, "Nice clean fun."
And she was out of the house.
