Lily was not a girl to cry.

Yet the minute she flicked off her light and crawled into bed, she began to bawl.

It's all my fault…I know it's all my fault. She thought to herself, and remembered a simple question, with a simple answer, that Oliver had asked.

Flashback

Oliver and Lily sat on the swings at their favorite park. It was their special place that they had never told Miley about.

"Lily, can I ask you a question?" Oliver asked.

"Yeah, sure." She shrugged in reply.

"What do you think love is?"

Lily had to think for a minute. "I think love is…being able to sacrifice everything you have for just one person."

And then Lily remembered what would always be the worst day of her life…the day her best friend died.

Flashback #2

Lily was crossing the street, just ahead of Oliver. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Matt skateboarding down the sidewalk. She turned to wave at him, and he flashed her a smile back.

"Lily!" Oliver yelled, and she was pushed forward, just before a car zoomed forward. She fell to the ground, her knee stinging, but all she cared about was the BANG as it hit Oliver.

She got up as fast as she could and turned around. Matt was beside her, calling an ambulance.

Lily soon heard the sirens, and the paramedics looked over Oliver.

One of them said to the other "I don't think this kid's going to make it."

Lily felt like someone had ripped out her heart and cut it into a million little pieces.

Just before they closed the doors to the ambulance, Lily rushed forward and held them open.

"Oliver…" She tried not to cry.

"Love means being able to sacrifice everything you have for just one person." He whispered. "I love you, Lily."

"I love you too." She replied, barely audible.

The doors closed, the ambulance drove away, and Lily never saw Oliver again.

It was all that simple word's fault. Love. If Oliver hadn't loved Lily, he wouldn't have died. She would have. It was just that simple.

Lily knew that Oliver wouldn't want her to spend the rest of her life feeling guilty about it. So she made a promise to herself, and Oliver.

"I'll always save you a special place in my heart. The rest of it might fill up, or empty, but there's always one place for you." She said to her ceiling.

And she simply knew that Oliver was listening.
