She knew that if she really would have wanted to hurt him she could have done in with ease. But why did she not want to hurt him?
He held her hostage, he already shot Gerald and she could not know what he'll do to her. But why did she think she knew he would do nothing to her – at least nothing that would hurt her physically?
But the same time she asked herself that question she already knew the answer. His eyes were telling her she was safe. It was strange because nothing in her current situation was safe, but looking into her captor's eyes she felt like if she was.
'Next time I'll be quicker!', she said to him. It was not easy to speak to him in this angry voice because she really was not angry with him. 'Again very strange', she thought. But all the hate she felt for him from the beginning had seemed to fade the moment he held her close.
'Don't you wonder why you weren't now?' he asked her with a light smile.
'No!' Kate thought. 'I do not wonder about this. It would be useless because I already know the answer.' And yes, this finally scared her.
'My name is Ari Haswari.', he said only to her as he leaned forward a bit. He knew that she would not use it against him, for the same reason Kate had not stabbed him to safe her life. He trusted her and she trusted him.
Kate could not be sure but she thought he must've felt her shiver at just thinking of him.
Kate was trained what to do in every possible situation but this one. No one ever taught her what to do if you fell in love with your captor.
But it was certainly not what she was doing next. Without further thinking she leaned forward and brushed her lips over his. Caught by surprise he needed a moment to realize but then he kissed her back.
For a few moments everything around them seemed to not be there. No unconscious and wounded Gerald, who really needed a doctor; no surprised Ducky, who tried to get their attention to stop kissing; no teams outside the building, who are trying to rescue Kate and the others from this hostage situation.
No, for a few moments there was just Kate and Ari.
She woke up in the middle of the night and sat up in bed. When she felt someone moving next to her she laid down again.
'What is it?' her husband asked.
'Nothing!' she replied, kissing him tenderly on the lips.
'You had a nightmare?' he asked again, a bit worried about his wife.
'No!' Kate answered, letting him take her in his arms and holding her tight. 'Not at all!' she whispered before falling asleep in Ari's arms, listening to the breaths of their little daughter.
