A/N Alright, 1/50 for character diversity boot camp put on by... Well, I forgot. I'll put it up there ^^^ In the description later. Sorry :/

It was a cool, dark evening when Draco decided to go out on the grounds for a stroll. There was a light breeze that caused his cloak to billow behind his every step. He made his way to a secret spot between two trees and just sat there staring out over the water.

In the silence, tears rolled down the Slytherin's face. His father expected him to join the Deatheaters in only a year, on his sixteenth birthday. He lost his girlfriend only hours before. His only escape was this lake. Only a few knew of this spot, he suspected that no one else in Slytherin knew about it. It was perfectly concealed, especially at night. No one should find him here…

"D-Draco?" a small voice came from behind him.

Shit.

The blond hastily wiped his eyes and turned around to see a familiar Ravenclaw girl standing behind him. Her name was Cho, if he remembered correctly. "What do you want?" Despite his best efforts, his voice cracked halfway through the sentence.

Cho smiled a little. "I came here to get away from it all, you know. I just discovered this place a few days ago, thought it might be nice."

"Yeah, it is quite nice. I come here when I… Have a lot on my mind."

Cho sighed. "I take it you know what today is then."

"My birthday," Draco replied stiffly. How could she have known that?

The smile disappeared. "Oh, well then happy birthday, Draco. But I was referring to what happened to Cedric, a year ago."

Draco relaxed. Of course, she had been his girlfriend. It only makes sense. "Are you ok, Cho?" Draco couldn't believe his own ears. Did he just say that?

Cho walked over and sat down next to the Slytherin boy. "No. I'm not. Cedric was… Perfect. He was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Then he was just… Gone. I couldn't believe it then, and I still cannot believe it now." Draco nodded to show that he was listening. "He was so lively. It's hard to believe that he was taken down by- by just one curse. I would've thought that it would take at least five to take him down. He's just… Gone!"

Cho buried her head in he hands, sobbing. Draco wrapped his strong arms around her and pulled her close. She cried into his chest for a few moments before looking up into his silver eyes.

"Thank you," she whispered. She kissed his cheek briefly before standing. "It's almost time for curfew. I should be getting back to my dorm."

"Wait," Draco said as he caught her arm. "I think you missed." He crashed his lips onto hers and snaked his arms around her waist. She wrapped her arms around his neck in pure bliss.

Cho now knew that Cedric had been a love, but it was just not meant to be. There was no use in dwelling on the past. It was what was in the present that matters.

And, in said present, Cho had never been more excited to miss curfew in her entire life.
