I never thought that you would be the one to hold my heart.
Chloe sat curled up with in the soft chair sipping on a cup of chamomile tea gazing over at Oliver's sleeping form on the couch. Earlier she had talked him into staying in and watching a chick flick.
She pondered how they had ended up like this. She would never have imagined it at their first meeting. She watched the steady rise and fall of his chest as she took a sip of the soothing beverage.
"He told you about Bart?"
"Yeah, Clark and I trust each other, though I had to figure out your little green leather fetish all by myself."
A smile spread across her face at the memory. They had both gone through their share of romances, before reaching this point, each seeming to end in disaster. He had always been there. She just hadn't noticed. It had almost been like they were two satellites orbiting around each other, but never realizing. She didn't even know when exactly the planets shifted from "just friends" to more than that. She was glad that they did.
I never want to leave you
Chloe's fingers flew over the keyboard. It took skill and time to erase all traces of a person's life. She was almost done. Only one keystroke left and Chloe Sullivan would be no more as far as the outside world was concerned. Her finger hesitated over the Enter key.
Chloe couldn't help but glance over at the small picture frame that sat next to the computer terminal. She and Oliver had gone down to the Fair and they were standing behind the cardboard cutouts with their heads sticking out. She was the lady with the bikini and Oliver was the strong man. Now, she was going to have to be the strong one.
It tore at her heart. She wished she could leave some sort of note or something to let Oliver know so many things that had been left unsaid. She hadn't been granted the luxury of a goodbye. She knew she would not be able leave like this if he was standing in front of her. She couldn't have second thoughts about this. This was the only way to save him. She was the only who knew what was coming and the only one that could prevent it. This had to be done.Taking a steadying breath, she pressed the enter key.
.
It's easier for you to let me go.
Chloe stood silently, behind the group congregated on the couch laughing at the antics on the video. A small smile graced her face as she lovingly watched them. They were a group now, and she longer felt a part of it. Clark had shown that no longer trusted her the way he once had. He now had Lois now. Her destiny was elsewhere.
Chloe turned silently from the joyful crowd, only stopping momentarily at the door to wrap her coat against her before continuing on.
"Hey, where are you going?"
Chloe turned around, a lie ready on her lips. She had told herself she didn't care for him, not wanting to let someone in and be hurt again. Even after she could no longer deny there was something there, she wouldn't admit that he meant anything to her – even arguing the point while locked in a trunk. She had left him. How many chances should he give her? It would be better without her there.
"I thought we were going to rendezvous at your place." She plastered on a smile, trying to look like everything was the same.
"Look, I know you're leaving," Oliver said, reaching into his pocket. I have something to show you."
Chloe looked at the missing half of the marriage certificate; a smile crossed her face as she pulled out her half.
"I don't know what you are planning on doing, but I hope you are not going to leave your husband."
Chloe's smile grew as Oliver leaned down, kissing her.
I hope you see right through my walls, when I am in your arms I'm home.
