There was a single point of light in the darkness – which Kakuzu crushed with the heel of his boot.
"Get ready in three minutes." Zetsu's tiny voice said in the metallic device attached to his ear. "And are you smoking?"
Kakuzu resisted the urge to scoff, replying instead with a noncommittal grunt as the remnants of the cigarette crunched under his shoe. He wondered idly why he had been partnered with the pretentious schizophrenic as he walked out of a dark alley and down a dimly-lit pavement. Hidan just had to fuck himself up and leave him with a shittier bastard–
There she was. The white of her doctor's coat was eye-catching while the pink hair immediately gave her identity away.
"Idiot," he mumbled under his breath. She just couldn't make his job any easier.
There was a crackle in the transmitter before Zetsu's voice accosted his ears once more. "If you mess up, we're both dead–"
"I know what to do." Kakuzu growled at the same time as the woman, Sakura as they called her, looked over her shoulder and met his eyes.
There was an echo of a gunshot and a street lamp flickered off.
