Life of Lies

"We're what?" Alex said in shock as she looked at her mother.

Her mother sighed and rubbed her green eyes. "We're moving, Alex. The FBI are placing us in the witness protection program."

"But I don't want to leave. I don't want to live under a false identity. I'm not leaving!"

Two FBI agents stood in the living room doorway, hands folded in front of them.

The tall bald one glared at her. "You really don't have any choice. You're the only witness to a murder that will finally put Kenny Thomas behind bars. We need you alive to testify. He'll try anything to keep you from testifying."

Alex groaned. "I can take care of myself!"

"Alex, please calm down." her mother said.

"I'm not leaving!"

"It's not an option." The shorter FBI agent said.

Alex's hazel eyes burned with hatred. There was no way she could get out of moving. She'd be leaving her house full of memories and awesome friends behind. Her brown hair had red bangs that fell into her eyes when she hung her head in defeat.

"Fine but I'm not changing my name."

"Alex…" her mother sighed. "Why do you have to be so difficult? You'll do what ever they say you have to do. I can't risk losing you."

"Your new name is Kay Johnson." the bald FBI agent told her.

Alex rolled her eyes. "When are we leaving, chump?"

"Tonight. Pack just what you need. Mrs. Anderson, your son Rory is being picked up from school as we speak. The moment he gets home you'll have ten minutes to get your bags."

I can't believe this is happening! Alex screamed in her mind, All because of that stupid guy. I'm not going to die. The guy probably doesn't even know I was there.

How wrong she was. Kenny had sent some friends to keep an eye on her. Three men stood in the window of the house across the street, waiting for the right moment. With the FBI hanging around it wasn't going to be easy. Kenny knew the FBI too well. He knew they'd end up putting her in witness protection. All he needed to know was where she was going and when the FBI wouldn't be around. All he had to do was wait patiently.
