A bell chimed alerting Lars of a new customer at The Big Donut. He rolled his eyes and dragged himself from the break room, giving himself an internal pep talk. He kind of hoped Steven had come to visit. Much to his surprise, it was Sadie, on her day off, with another girl.

"Hey Lars," Sadie said with a wave. "Just stopping by to, you know, get a donut." She walked up to the counter, the other girl in tow. "This is my...friend. Her name is Riannon. She's not from around here. Actually we're really good friends."

"Yeah yeah whatever. What do you want? Hey while you're here, I was hoping tomorrow you could cover my shift," Lars said.

"Oh. Well that would mean I would have to work for twelve hours straight."

"Yeah but I really need it off. It's my...dog's birthday," he said quickly pushing an advertisement for a new video game that he'd been reading earlier out of sight. "You understand how important it is for me to celebrate with my dog right?"

Sadie made a face. "I didn't know you had a dog... Anyway we'd like two donuts please." Sadie looked up at Riannon for approval for the order and she smiled. "Yeah two donuts with sprinkles." She paused again. "Lars I've been meaning to introduce you properly. Riannon is actually my girlfriend."

Lars couldn't help but have a face of complete shock. "Your girlfriend?! But Sadie. I thought..." He looked down but decided he didn't want to seem weak and made eye contact again. "But you like me. So how can you have a girlfriend."

"You know Lars. I've done a lot of thinking. You're probably the biggest jerk I've ever met. I used to like you so much but I realized that I deserve more than you. Riannon thinks I'm beautiful. And she doesn't make me feel guilty all the time." Sadie looked up at Riannon with a sparkle in her eye. "She loves me and cares for me in a way I didn't think existed." She looked back at Lars. "And you're just an asshole. But I hope one day you can find what I have here. Because it's the best feeling ever."

While the speech was going on, Lars had habitually put two donuts in a bag, though still in a trance from listening to Sadie. "Thanks for the donuts Lars. And no, I won't work for you tomorrow."

The girls left the shop hand in hand, and sat down on a bench nearby. Sadie took one donut from the bag and handed it to Riannon. "That went really well I think. I'm proud of you," Riannon said. "Lars didn't know how special you are."

Sadie smiled. She loved the way Riannon's dark brown skin seemed to glow in the sunlight. "I'm glad you do."
