Hello, everyone. To celebrate the anniversary of the June Rebellion, this slightly insane writer, TheIbis2010, has decided to release three poems dedicated to those students and workers who died on the barricades in hopes a better tomorrow. The first be published on June 5th, the second the 6th and the third the 7th. You may like or dislike them as you wish.
Arise, Paris!
"Arise, Paris!"
That is what they shouted. That is what they called for,
Until they could shout no more.
From the ashes of that first Fury, two score and three years dead,
Rose a new beast, anxious to be fed.
The 14th of July joined with the 5th of June,
heralding a new age, with a new moon.
This beast asked: "Do you hear them?
Your tired, your hungry, your poor?
From the smallest gamin to the highest lord,
What do they wish for?
Blood."
And the beast smiled a grin of red,
waiting to feast upon the dead.
On the tomb of Lamarque, they did merge and band.
Les Amis de l'Abaisse began their stand.
They asked this beast,
"Why should you feast?
You have drunk blood before, in '93.
Those men did not die in the fight to be free!
Foul creature, we do not need your aid!
Down with the guillotine, up with the barricade!"
"Arise, Paris!"
That is what they shouted. That is what they called for,
Until they could shout no more.
Yeah, it's not very long. Even so, I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Check back tomorrow for the second poem, and please, feel free to review this! I appreciate any comments you may have. :)
