P.S. I came up with this idea while homecoming dress shopping.
As Steve stared into the face of danger and felt his breath catch in his throat, he wonders how he had gotten himself into this mess.
"Woh, Danny? Where you going? I thought we could catch a bit to eat since we finished all the paperwork early." Steve said, stopping his partner from jogging out of the office.
"I really wish I could, Steve, but Grace has another father-daughter dance and she needs a new dress. I told her we would go out today." Danny replied, the idea of dress shopping being not so appealing but the idea of being with Grace brightened the whole thing.
Steve nodded and, without really thinking, asked, "Can I come?"
Danny stared at him for a moment, mouth agape before he finally managed a stuttered, "What?"
"Well," Steve said, rubbing the back of his neck and trying to quickly come up with an excuse. He didn't really feel like explaining how he didn't want to go home to his empty house where there was no one there and that ever since Catherine had left he . . . "If you don't want me to come, that's fine. I understand. Father-daughter bonding time."
Danny's face went from shocked, to compassionate to ecstatic in a matter of one second. "Grace would be so thrilled! Great idea Steve! Anyways, today was a half day at school school her so she'll be hungry anyways. We can grab a bite to eat, too."
Steve quickly came back to the present and looked between Grace, who was wearing a purple strapless dress, and his partner, who looked like he was going to murder the designer, and blurted out, "What was I thinking? You're right, Danny. That one is too short."
Danny nodded and flopped back down into the oversized chair he had previously been sitting in. "Next one, monkey."
Grace sighed. "But, Danno. I've already tried five on from the other store and three from here."
"Yes, Grace, but none of them were just right." Danny said, smiling.
Grace thought about this for a moment before shrugging and going back into the dressing room.
Steve reclaimed his position in the other half of the oversized chair next to Danny and crossed his arms. He didn't want to incur the wrath of Danno again.
"Nice save, Super SEAL." Danny said.
"I didn't think it was that bad." Steve replied in defense.
"IT HAD NO STRAPS, STEVEN!" Danny said, his voice raised as he became heated.
Steve took a deep breath, giving Danny a moment to do the same. "Neither of us may like it, Danny, but Gracie's growing up."
Danny nodded. "I know. But . . . She's my lift girl. I don't know if i'm ready to let her go."
"She'll be ok. And we can always break the knees of any prospective dates," Steve said, laughing.
Danny didn't laugh.
"That was supposed to be funny, Danny."
"Wait, you were joking?"
Have a great week!
