Ice of the North Wind

Chapter 1

I stepped outside to take a break. The sun was shining, the breeze blowing. I thought about the trees, how strongly they are rooted, but yet how easily they sway when the smallest breeze flutters by. This again is my last day, I thought, my last day of summer break before a whole school year's time. I sighed. This summer had gone by so fast, as fast as the last summer, and the next to last summer, and the summer before that. I need more time. More time to be me, myself and I. More time to play and laugh with the Inner Me. You see, when I'm at school, I am a stereotype. I'm the girl that would rather live in Missouri, or Alabama, or maybe even Wyoming rather than New York City. I'm the girl that has everything a girl would ever want. I've got the clothes, the looks, the most recent edition of People Magazine, the newest phone from CNYC, the most expensive phone company, with unlimited texting and Internet, and an unlimited spending Credit Card from CRO-Crds International. But I'm the girl who would give it all up just to live year 'round at my country club house in Phoenix, Arizona.

Stepping back through the double glass doors and back into the 2-room kitchen, I began to practice the impersonations I put up every year at Fort Herace, a private school in NYC. Remember, I'm a stereotype.

"OMG MIRA! I haven't seen you in like, um, A WHOLE SUMMER! Can you believe that! Why didn't you reply to any of my texts?", Coura asked.

"Well, um, I was studying really hard for the SATs. I did pretty well with my PSAT, so I'm expecting to do like really really well with the SATs. I heard that they are like TEN TIMES HARDER,", I replied.

"Well, don't worry, honeybunny. 'Tis going to be fine. See? I'm am so using the word 'tis today."

"Well, anyway, come with me to the Café."

"Why?"

"Coura, just puh-leeeaaase come! I tell you when we get there."

"Is it about Dylan and Jenna?"

"Maybe "

"Mira, cuh-ount me in!"

I stood up, relieved that my yearly impersonation was similar to last years. Now, it was just time to have some fun.

"Wait, Mira, you can like tell me here."

"No, I'd rather in the Café."

"It doesn't really matter, Mira"

"OK, fine," I said. "Don't you think Dylan and Jenna are so out? I mean, COME ON! Jenna was wearing the 2007, yes, TWO THOUSAND AND SEVEN Jimmy Choo Classics. And Dylan, she was hanging out with AGATHA MERKERMEIN just because they were science lab partners and because Agatha was the only person that had a free at that time."

"OMG MIRA ARE YOU SERIOUS! Agatha Merkermein! And 2007 Jimmy Choo Classics! Nu-oh way! I would never believe Jenna and Dylan could do such horrible things! Out! O-U-T OUT!", replied Coura, completely astounded.

"But then, we're gonna need new Angelz."

"How about Miranda?"

"And Ali?"

"Hmm: DONE!"

"And done!"

I entered homeroom in confidence. I was back. Mira's back.
