The dingy pub was quiet this time of night, closing. The last few patrons being forcefully helped out the door by the large bartender while the last barmaid wiped down the sticky oak tables. It was peaceful at this time. No more men reeking of whiskey and pipe tobacco yelling for her attention or grabbing at her assets.

Lily loved this time of day, when everything was winding down. No more customers, no more bar owner yelling in her ear. It was just her and Patrick, the large burly bartender with tree trunk legs and boulders filling his arms. They closed up the pub every night together and had been friends for many years.

"Thanks for throwin' the last of 'em out, Pat, I 'preciate it," Lily told him tiredly.

"Anything for you, Flower," said Patrick with a laugh in his voice, " you can go ahead and head

home, Lils, I can finish up here."

Lily looked at him gratefully. She wanted to take a walk along the ocean before she headed back to her flat.

"Alright, Patrick, don't stay too long!" said Lily as she gathered her brown wool shall from behind the bar.

"See you in the morning, Lily. Be careful!" Patrick told her as he followed her to the door.

Lily gave him a tired smile as stepped out on to the street and into the cool night air. It smelled salty and the only noise were the seagulls squawking. She walked slowly down the dirt road, barely taking in her surroundings until she reached her destination. The ocean was beautiful under a full moon. It sparkled like tiny diamonds extending indefinitely.

Suddenly, a strange gust of wind whipped along the sands of the bay and gave Lily a very strange feeling; as if change were coming. Shaking off her uncertainty Lily gathered her discarded shawl from the sand and walked briskly to her home.

A/N: so this is the first fanfiction I have written since I was probably 12…meaning 10 years ago and I'm just curious to see what I can crank out and if it is at all enjoyable to anyone. I would appreciate any feedback very much! I'll continue if there's interest so let me know!
