A/N I've never written a drabble before. Strickly speaking I don't even read them (OK, occasionally). But this idea got stuck in my head. So, voila. I hope it reads the way I meant it.
Because falling's not the problem
When I'm falling I'm in peace
It's only when I hit the ground
It causes all the grief
-Florence + The Machine, "Falling"
As she falls, Percy's body warm and comforting like a blanket around her, she thinks of New Rome and the siren's song. Her foot is hot with pain and her brain fuzzy with it. Maybe that's why she is thinking about the future and her deepest desires instead the impending doom (literally) before her, below her.
The fact that Arachne is still pulling her by her foot, that Percy and she make a perfect sacrifice, that they just left the rest of their friends to deal this finding the doors of hell two heroes short of the seven. And most importantly she and her boyfriend are falling into the ninth circle of hell that a son of Hades could barely survive. All these important things she should be thinking about. And yet…
Her parents aren't back together. She hadn't save Luke the way she wanted. The closest to rebuilding New York she ever came was Olympus. But as she thought of New Rome now, without the fear of losing Percy to a different camp- now it felt like that perfect, permanent world she wanted to build when she was thirteen.
Her fingers tighten on Percy's shirt and he pulls her closer. Why worry about dying and the fate of world? She could see her future, the way Percy tried to explain his beautiful, unhidden, safe (world) dream. Compared to the last six month searching and agonizing fruitlessly for Percy, Tartarus with he was there would be a walk in through the strawberry patch.
Also the lyrics, super not my thing. I even don't like certain authors that do that because I think they're trying too hard, but well I was trying to name the story (it did't even come out interesting those lines played on a loop in my head. I think they apply. You know they're fulling and hell and the end of the world and the most powerful evil, etc. is beneath, but just right then it's Percy and Annabeth and that's all that matters.
