Basically just a sad little drabble written when I was supposed to be doing homework. Well, sad if you can guess why Percy did it.

Their empathy link connected them like no phone could.
When Grover preposed to Juniper, Percy knew the night before, and if it wasn't for the empathy link, Grover would have never had the guts to tell anyone before it happened.
When Annabeth was pregnant, Grover was the first, aside from Percy, to know about it. Percy and Annabeth weren't planning to tell anybody, as they were too scared, but Grover got them to open up about it and they were all happy when they did.
So when Percy came to Grover with an odd request, Grover knew something was up.
Their empathy link had been very...distant the past few days. Percy, who usually communicated with Grover through dreams, hadn't had any dreams the for a week now. Grover assumed it was because Percy wasn't getting enough sleep, but he wasn't sure what was happening to his best friend.
Then, one day, Percy came up to Grover during training, with circles under his eyes and his face very serious.
"Grover, I want to close the empathy link," Percy stated gravely.
Grover looked at him, confused. "What?"
"I want to close the empathy link. Did you not hear me the first time?" Percy's voice was getting louder, and everyone was coming to take a closer look.
"But...why?" Grover was shaking now, at his friend's scariness,
"I just want to...okay?" Percy said, softer this time. "You said that empathy links can be closed if the saytr and human are face to face and both want it closed. Please close it, Grover."
Grover nodded. "I will."
He closed his eyes, and Percy felt something inside of them both break.
The empathy link was gone.
Percy was free to think and feel whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.
And whether that was a bad thing no one knew.
But years later, after Percy's death, everyone could guess.
