Damsel in Distress
Pov-Carly
The soft bristle on the pink toothbrush tickle her throat and she starts to retch .Her throat is burning and she can feel the scarlet blood trickling from her throat. And her eyes widen because the crimson blood never stops gushing from her throat like a perfect cherry red waterfall. And she promises herself that she'll stop but even she knows that she won't because she needs this. She needs to be perfect and in control. And she knows that perfect girls don't throw up after meals so she lies and hides her secret well.
She needs to be perfect and thin. And so she repeatedly vomits because she needs to be thin .It's the only thing that she can control. Carly is the perfect one and she plays her role well. She gets A's and she smiles so no one can see that she's cracking beneath her masked façade of precision and perfection. And she prays that no one can recognize her fake Barbie laughter and smile.
And she hopes that no one can see the bruises on her knuckles. And she prays that no one is suspicious of the reason she sneaks off to the bathroom. And she hopes that no one can see that her once charcoal black hair is becoming wispy and thin. She also hopes that no one can heart that her light, up-beat enthusiastic voice has turned raspy, sarcastic and cold.
And in the middle of the silenced dark night she secretly dreams that someone will rescue her from herself .And she prays for her perfect prince to rescue her(because she's perfect and perfect girls always get the prince). And she knows(hopes) that he'll rescue her because all her life she's practiced the role of the damsel in distress. And she knows that she's being narcissistic and selfish but she doesn't care.
Play Pretend
And you have to play pretend and act like you don't hear her retching because you know that she would shatter and break herself into a million pieces. And so you smirk when she rushes off into the bathroom and listen closely because honestly you're a masochist. And you know that by not saving her you're all condemning yourself to excruciating pain but you like that she's not perfect and that she's actually not just a plastic junior Barbie.
And you grin every time Freddie tells Carly that he loves her because he's setting himself up for rejection. You crave the feeling after he gets rejected because now he knows how it feels. You've had your heart broken by so many guys and its agony knowing that even the guy that you love has to love Carly. And secretly you want to be a perfect Barbie just like Carly but that role is already taken (so you play the adventurous bad girl).
And you die a little inside when Carly finally decides to love Freddie because frankly Carly and Freddie were always ''meant'' to be. And on their wedding day you hope that the tears aren't visible. And you wish that someone will object to them being married but no one does. And you watch them dance and you smile a little harder (and just a smidge faker).
And then they're on the news and it looks so bad. And the cars are wrapped together and she's dead. And he comes over sobbing and you comfort him. And he's screaming for his Carly.
And then six months later he kisses you on the balcony, but he rushes away. And you're afraid and scared and you know that he's probably feeling guilty. But he comes back and kisses you a little harder (and a lot more passionate).
And then a year and a half later you're at your wedding. And they're tears and he kisses you passionately. And you pray that no one will object and no one does. And you cry and smile and you love being Mrs. Samantha Puckett-Benson.
