Disclaimer: Naruto is not mine, just something that defines my childhood and probably a big reason I am who I am today.
Like it was yesterday, Hinata had attended the Winter dance with her long-time crush. It was like a fairytale with a kiss under the mistletoe to top off the night. It was a dream come true.
Then it broke. All in one moment her fairytale shattered.
He was kissing their so-called friend. The girl his best friend used to date.
And maybe people were right. Maybe she was little harsh on him when he tried to explain.
But then again, they weren't the ones who had gotten hurt.
Of all the things that come from her sudden nightmare of a life, she never imagined that she'd actually grow close to the guy that barely blinked in anyone's direction.
The heartache is almost too much to bare.
Something aches harsh and unrelenting when Naruto catches sight of her. It hurts more when he sees her standing so close his best friend… ex-best friend, with the way they acted now.
Just knowing that she had cried because of him. Then watching her walk through the doors, smiling at Sasuke like he was her best friend. It's his fault that the ache hurts so much.
He just wants things to go back to normal. Have her forgive him; get forgiveness from her and her family on his knees.
Right now, they both needed time and space. The heartache hurts more when he forces himself to walk away.
Sakura is aware that she should know better. She should have just left her jealousy behind her and moved on but now the whole world is crashing down around them.
When had she become this stupid? Had this come with the New Year?
Now all the bonds she had created for the past sixteen years are threatened. And the thought of hurting her friends more than she already has, breaks her down.
She knows Naruto is blaming himself, but he shouldn't. He hadn't been the catalyst for this angsty sitcom.
Watching Naruto and Sasuke drift apart screams wrong to her. Watching Hinata and Sasuke draw closer and closer breaks her just a bit more than before.
To have invited Hinata in that first night had come as a surprise even to him. Sasuke had never been known for his kindness and what had transpired has only served to draw them closer. He almost finds himself considering her a friend rather than acquittance.
It blindsides him how fast everything is changing. How being able to talk to someone can lighten things up almost.
Only thing was, why couldn't he take his own advice.
To have lost his friend to only gain another from the drama. It's almost laughable in the darkness of his room. He may not be the kindest, but he wasn't so heartless to leave a broken girl in the rain.
(1)-I'm going to give this another go. Fix up a few things and maybe get somewhere. Updates will probably be pretty spaced.
