The Secret Keeper
By: somedayisours
Summary: When a girl slips in between reality and fiction she is out of her mind with glee. But it is only time before the consequences of her actions catch up to her. Moriarty loved people who were different, and the girl who knew everything was someone he couldn't just let run around, but he couldn't get rid of her. She was far to interesting, even gave Sherlock a run for his money.
Warnings: Self-Insert/OC-Insert. One-Shot.
Time: During The Great Game

A/N: Michelle Crawford (OC) is three years younger than Sherlock. So their ages are as followed:
Sherlock 33
John 36
Michelle 30

"See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil."
- Three Wise Monkeys

Moriarty didn't like getting his hands dirty, but Michelle was someone he would make exceptions for. She wasn't hard on the eyes with sand coloured hair, dark eyes and light skin. She was even fairly clever, and she knew things that no one could, should know.

It had been a hint, Sherlock wasn't sure if it was something he wanted to find, but the girl had been mentioned more than once, all of the times it was said that she knew something about Moriarty.

Kicking down the door Sherlock descended the steps into the basement, John following closely behind.

There was a chair set up in the middle of the basement, a girl with wide unseeing eyes sitting on it. It took second for Sherlock to recognize her.

Her hair was darker from dirt and any other substances, her eyes were milky and the scar tissue was prominent around her eyes, but she was the same girl he had come across years ago.

"Michelle," he said gently, quickly moving across the room and putting his hand on top of hers.

Michelle jumped in surprise, her mouth open in a silent scream as her other hand immediately reached out for Sherlock's. Her hand moved, her fingers trailing up his arm and to his face, her finger brushing across his cheekbones and jaw.

"Is she mute?" John asked, seeming to take note of her silence.

"And deaf." Sherlock agreed, brushing the short strands of hair away from Michelle's ears, exposing the trails of blood.

"Did Moriarty…?" John questioned.

Sherlock's eyes narrowed as he watched Michelle mouth what she seemed to want to say.

"Michelle Crawford," he started. "Born in 1980, she came to me five years ago at the beginning of my time as a Consulting Detective. She knew things, but didn't say a word that would have told me anything else." Sherlock looked away from Michelle and locked eyes with John. "She was the first person to mention Moriarty."

"So she knew things about Moriarty, and she tried to tell you?"

Sherlock grimaced and sighed.

"And he shut her up." John continued in a resigned sort of way.

"See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." Sherlock parroted almost bitterly.

A/N: Knowing Moriarty, he would either have Michelle permanently blind, deaf and mute or he would have her close to being deaf, blind and mute. I like to think that not all Self-Inserts have perfect timing, and friends with the protagonist, and immune to the antagonist. Michelle Crawford tried to connect with Sherlock, or at least be around him when the time came, but she caught Moriarty's attention. It's kinda sad. I might just write an AU for her where she doesn't end up tortured and unable to communicate at all.

Thank You for reading The Secret Keeper.
